Thai businesses should not panic or speculate on the reason behind Washington’s decision to suspend its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) to Thailand, said Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Prayut Chan-o-cha after presiding over the opening ceremony of the Digital Thailand Big Bang 2019 exhibition at Bitec Bangna today (October 28).

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodian authorities and volunteer divers were searching on Monday for a 21-year-old British woman who has been missing for five days from its southwestern coast popular with backpackers.

Transport Minister Saksiam Chidchob has said the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) didn’t have a policy to close or downgrade any airport in Thailand, including those in Hat Yai and Chiang Rai, and there is no change to the planned expansion of six airports.

Finance Ministry slashes economic growth forecast but predicts brighter 2020

Lavaron Sangsnit, director of the Fiscal Policy Office, announced on Monday (October 28) that the Finance Ministry has cut its growth forecast to 2.8 per cent from 3 per cent previously estimated.

Ministry of Commerce to negotiate with US to restore GSP

Ministry of Commerce inspector-general and acting director-general of the Department of Foreign Trade, Kirati Ratchano, said on Monday that the Ministry will negotiate with the US to restore the recently suspended Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) without using any trade countermeasures.

Traders to ask government to postpone ban on herbicides for 6 months

Three associations of paraquat, chlorpyrifos and glyphosate traders are planning to ask the government to postpone the December 1st enforcement of the ban on the three hazardous farm chemicals by six months, to allow them to clear their stocks and to give farmers time to find alternatives.

Public Health Ministry installs automated blood pressure monitors in public places

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand currently has 13 million people suffering from high blood pressure and the figure is expected to increase. Almost 50% of these people are not aware that they have high blood pressure, which can lead to other complications. To address the issue, the Ministry of Public Health has joined hands with relevant units to install 100 automated blood pressure monitors in public places so people can check their blood pressure and assess their condition themselves.
