However that said some faralangs amongst us , call thailand their home ? ...

How else would someone call it after having lived here for 10, 15, 20 years?

Grass is not much greener on the other side.

Here you have to do 90 day reports, back home you have to pay high taxes

Here locals call you names, back home you need a permission from local council if you want to fart.

No need to be a snowflake over little things in life.there are by far greater issues life can bring than being called an alien or made to do 90 days report ????

Not saying i agree or approve it, but not going to get my knickers in a twist over it

After that you can come back and tell me if it´s racist or if it has to do with upholding the law?

How many of these other Asians are given a mask representing an alien to wear.

It's completely racist and has nothing to do with the law.   You can believe what you want but you are completely wrong.

How terrible! I really feel for you. Anyway, I´ve solved the problem for you earlier in this thread. Actually 1 hour before you told me your problems. It must be horrible to be soo fragile.

This is not our country. Guys (or girls...) they can do whatever the F---- they want to do. In USA I can vote and do changes . Here we are a guest . If we don't like it - tough luck... You do like the warm climate? Food? a smile? Stay here! otherwise go back and be happy. you must live in there way even if we don't agree with it. Thats is the reality!

should start to arrest all thai  outside Thailand overstaying too !!!

After being in Thailand and know how they treat foreigners, specially in BKK, they are not getting my money in the States anymore. I am not eating in their restaurants anymore. Actually I am avoiding anything Thai that I see here.

Yes but there comes a point where, if they are not stopped, it goes too far. I think it already has gone too far when we are treated like a criminal reporting to his parole officer. .... It is Insulting.

I have no problem.  It is you who have a problem as you cannot understand what racism and abetting it are.   I am not fragile at all.  I get along fine with most everyone and mostly Thai people.  The majority are not overtly racist. They just don't understand what it is and how it manifests itself as  hate.

It is you I feel sorry for because you canl't see it either.  The police and officials anywhere can't be allowed to enforce a law by violating a person's rights  by breaking a law they were sworn to uphold.

As I said -you are entitled to your opinion. I shall leave it at that.

i just wore mine out to have many holes in it for the breeze and fresh air, but i suppose gender change is an option to achieve similar results????

In Thailand there are "overstayers" and in the USA "non-documented" or "illegal" immigrants.

In most cases,  they are law-abiding and contribute to the economy.  So should governments allow them to stay and continue what they are doing? While some others follow the rules?

I guess you just have to shake the western attitude out of your body. You are in Thailand now. Nobody forced you. You did that choice out of free will.

I first came to Thailand in 1971 and have been here for every coup they have had. I speak Thai well and understand the Thai mindset quite well having been married to a Thai for over 40 years.

I enjoy the general Thai populace but I do not like  the way some bureuacrats act towards foreigners.  In addition- I do not like the way some foreigners act towards Thais.

I  could tell you  a hundred stories about living in Thailand and things I have seen good and bad but I won't because at the end of the day it doesn't really matter and most people who have not been here long term wouldn't believe it.    Nobody can or will do anything about the  bad. People just don;t care anymore..... I.m talking generally and not directed at you.  Nuff said

Nuff said? And you decide that?

I do think I can stand in the line of long term stayers with my around 23 years in Thailand. In thta case 13 years more or less have no validity. So, please do not take some kind of Mr. know it all and others know nothing attitude.

Shake off your Western attitude ... this argument is very easy to throw in ... but it goes 2 ways, mostly as people wish.

In the West, people are pretty law abiding ... in Thailand not at all!

Thai's don't care and give a damn about the law, driving without licenses, drunk, 10 peeps on the back of a pick-up, 5 on a motorcycle ... sabai sabai, they always pay their way out. Let me re-phrase that ... they "expect to be able to always pay their way out" ... or just wai.

If I completely get rid of all Western attitude (and all values), as you stated above, and act like a Thai, I would:

- let my boy ride a motorcy without license and helmet  ... I'm acting like a Thai

Then you would post how irresponsible this is! From your western point of view/attitude ... Thais don't care or give a damn, as you know.

- I would not even care about what type of visa I have and just pay the bribes to agents and immi to get what I need - in true Thai style

But then I break the law, and then you are going to report me ???? With your western attitude ... the law is the law, and must not be broken!

etc. etc. etc. (this could get a long list with examples Thai vs. Western attitude)

What does it really mean when you say ... shake of the Western attitude?

Do I have to become 100% Thai? But then I would do silly things you would not let pass as being correct!

Do I have a Western attitude? Then you say you have to shake it off? No one forced me to be here

It's funny how this always get's twisted around

The racism in Thailand really makes my blood boil and makes me so angry when other non thais flippantly defend or joke about it. This act by Thai media is sickening and so disrespectful OMG top gear had such a frenzied attack from thais when they said a rickety bridge had a slant on it. Imagine if they had went round thailand wearing Chinese hats and stupid masks dropping their "R" and replacing it with "L" the out cry but this refer to us as a white fleshed fruit "Falang" and now covering our face with a stupid cartoon alien head. OMFG! TANTRUM OVER.

I must have been to a different Thailand where people are usually nicer to farangs than to their own people.

This is about a guy overstayed by several years and to give him privacy they put an alien mask on, instead of just blurred the image.

It's probably a joke. It's so trivial to spend so much time thinking all the negative details, even if you have nothing better to do, at any age.

Mentioning Top Gear, well that is something if you can not see that they were going around Asia, behaving as if they were living in the British Empire period.

The colonial days and apartheid ended long time ago. You can not go out looting the world anymore.

Thais are treating all foreigners better than they themselves were treated in the past or now.

All Thais in Europe or in the US always encounter racism and if they are caught without a visa, they will be in jail.

It is a fair game now.

Note the disgustingly racist act of putting an 'alien' mask on the foreigner.

How low can the media Authorities stoop in their insults?!

And all this encouragement - incitement - to snitch on people. It's right out of Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Abhorrent.

What do you expect from "Naew Na" it's a tabloid news website. I've seen worse in the British tabloids. It's just a bit of humour to echo the use of the term "Illegal Alien" that's wildly used in the west to describe overstayers and unlawful enterers. What I find more racist is the selective use of "Expat" for some and Immigrant/migrant for others. Anyway an Alien face is to the point without having to cover large parts of the image with text saying "Illegal Swiss immigrant".

Why would you need to watch what you say if you live on the right side and have nothing to hide? (Just to clarify. I am not talking about giving my account number and a copy of my passport)

Lke, if you say to a workmate "I was in a bit late today and nobody noticed" the grass would go and tell the boss if he found out that you were late for work

They said it was ultimately under the orders of immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang and they urged the public to continue to report offenders by phoning 1178.

Do you use the same number to report on Lao, Burmese and Cambodian overstays too?
