Citizenship

Recommended Posts

Hello to all, I have a simple question to ask you...let's say I would think about getting citizenship and permanent residence in the future, so I want to know if that required 3 uninterrupted years with the same visa, means that I can't get out of the country in that 3 years, or if I have a re-entry permit I can do it anyway...thanks a lot.

The minimum requirement for PR is that you have spent 3 years in Thailand on a 1-year visa extension. If you're working, they'll expect you to have paid taxes for those 3 years. Going in and out of the country for short trips on a re-entry visa is no problem, but it might be a problem if you were spending several months overseas each year and not paying taxes.

You will be on contiguous annual extensions and, with a re-entry permit, are free to travel, ie to leave and re-enter the country without losing your extension status.

If you haven’t done so yet, read this most interesting topic on gaining Permanent Residence.
