UK Visa/Re-entry

Recommended Posts

planning on a short family trip from thailand to uk - france/spain/italy - uk then back to thailand in the new year,

Curious as to the requirements of visas for my thai partner.

for her to get a uk visa is simple enough but for us to go to france/italy etc would she need to apply for a 2nd visa for the uk to get back in?

or indeed a 2nd french visa after leaving for a day/week?

not sure if this is obvious but its got me baffled for the moment.

TIA!!

If you are a British Citizen you can still get a Schengen Visa for your wife free of charge, without some of the of evidence, and expidited, under the Freedom of movement Directive, if the UK leaves the EU in January with a deal, as there is a transition period until the end of 2020.

If the UK crashes out without a deal then she would need to apply for a Schengen Visa as a third party national, which isn't that hard but entails more evidence and payment of a fee. She should apply at the Schengen State Consulate that has juristiction for your main destination within Schengen, ie where you intend spending the longest time, or if you're spending an equal amount of time in more that one Member State, then she should apply via the Consulate with juristiction for her point of entry into the Schengen Area - the French can be particularly picky on this and have been known to count the hours. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the Spanish can be difficult when applying for visas ubder the FoM Directive.

As globalThailand says a UK Visa will normally be multi entry, they can be single entry but they normally only issue a single entry if they have concerns, but instances are rare.
