Are Kasikorn freezing accounts?

Featured Replies

Last year, I was a victim of Bangkok Bank's outrageous policy of freezing an account for 4 months after a visa extension based on marriage.

Consequently, I opened a new account with Kasikorn, and so far, all is going well.

However, my wife told me that Kasikorn are adopting a similar policy.

She might be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time) so I just want to know if Kasikorn are also freezing accounts if your balance does not exceed the required amount for four months prior to your visa extension.

If anybody has any recent experience of extending their visa with a Kasikorn account, and could let me know, I would be very grateful.

No, nothing reported here or Facebook

Cannot help you on that one as I have just moved my visa extension money from Kasikorn to Krungsri because of the other problems they are causing. Kasikorn are a bit of a joke with all their new rules. Could be other problems there as ING have just sold a lot of their shares in the bank.

What problems? Can you be more specific?

It all started when they reduced the limits on transfers and ATM withdrawals, not just my accounts but my Thai wife as well. We appealed through the local branch but her money is still locked to low limits. If you need to withdraw more than the daily limit you need counter service and then they charge you for not using the ATM. There are other threads on this and some posters have not had their limits reduced and do not have problems.

Now you cannot use a PC to enter their website without the KBiz app instead of a password. I recently updated my new passport with facial recognition (it took an hour to do) but the app still only recognizes the old passport so I cannot log in to the app, let alone the website on the PC.

I do not know who runs their IT department but they seem like monkeys.`

Switch to UOB or SCB.

perhaps ask your wife where she heard this ? on the news or "at the market" you could then try to verify it . A lot of these rumours are often started by people who have fallen out with their banks for whatever reason . and their experiences do not reflect bank policy . Personally I have had no issues with the Bangkok Bank

I've not been charged for that. They will charge for foreign card withdrawals though

All banks charge for foreign card withdrawals, and have done for a long time.

Why make such a contentious comment without anything to back it up?

I asked a simple question at the beginning of this post. I don't really think it's necessary to hijack it just because you don't like Kasikorn.

It happens when you account was opened in a different province. So I suggested to them that I open an account at my now local branch and they looked at me in horror. They could not say if a new account could be opened and would take at least a month as it had to go to head office.

As you are talking for all banks, when did they change?

This is because each branch is run like a franchise, no benefit to them in losing customers to another branch...

For me...Kasikorn will not allow me to transfer from Australian bank into my account, when presented the evidence they deny it. Continued for about 8 months, I now have money put straight to krungthai

Just look at their terms and conditions, that you have agreed to, compared to what they were 5 years ago. Much more restrictive.

I have never had issues with Kasikorn Bank, and their App is superbly designed in comparison to many others.

I believe my Kasikorn account is still at room temperature. Nobody's account is showing any signs of freezing here.

The major Thai banks all have apps that work and get the job done. Kasikorn’s app is overly cluttered, especially the dashboard. It also requires a face scan for basic transactions, even a 10-baht transfer.

SCB’s app looks outdated and unintuitive, but it works. In fact, they all work. The differences are mainly in how clean and modern the apps feel.

"Kasikorn will not allow me to transfer from Australian bank into my account"

'I have no problems transferring from my OZ ANZ account to my K Bank. Also no problems using my OZ based Wise account to K Bank. I have no solution to your problem, unfortunately.

No it doesn't, it only requires a facescan for 50.000 baht and up.

Nonsense! I regularly transfer money out of my Kasikorn account, sometimes up to 25K. I've never had to use face scan.

Okay what was the original question??😂

I have a close friend who hates Kasikorn bank from an issue that occurred decades ago and was his own fault.

Everyone has an axe to grind with some bank or another but you’re right it isn’t helpful for everyone else to know that.

I had an account with them years ago and they were the same as other Thai banks.

No, it doesn't. I use my KPLUS app on a daily basis for small day to day expenses, and for those, I NEVER need to scan my face. You've probably set your face scan threshold too low.

I saw another thread on AN very recently where a member reports that Krungsri have implemented the same regime of account freezing that Bangkok Bank started last year.

Greetings all naysayers. Try setting up a recurring scheduled payment of 10 Baht to an account at another bank, once a month for a set number of months. My face-scan threshold is set at 50K. Setting this up requires a face scan anyway, even though the total payment is less than 100 Baht when scheduling a 10-Baht monthly payment for six months.

Maybe it's just me, but IMHO, a scheduled recurring payment isn't a "basic transaction" and should require extra authentication.
