Unless teaching a work permit application approval letter or a WP3 receipt is needed to apply for a non-b visa.

Since you are on a retirement extension you would not be able to apply for a work permit. You would have to leave the country and re-enter with tourist visa or visa exempt entry to do the application. Or wait outside the country for the WP3 to be done.

OP, you could also leave the country once you've got all documents for your Non-B and apply for one in let's say Savannakhet.

You will get three months, enough time to get all sorted out. If it's reaching related you'll need a "provisional teacher's license" from TCT.

If it's not teaching related, you'll have to satisfy the department of labour that you're suitable for this job and submit the documents they want to see.

Even when it's one country, they all seem to have different rules and regulations what's needed.

How?

For any non-b visa other than teaching requires a work permit application being done.

When I got my non-b in july I had no proof the work permit application was lodged, here's the docs I needed/provided at the Brisbane consulate.

Step by step:

- Let your prospective employer prepare all the right documents

Such as company registration, contract, taxes, employees, and more...

You can find a complete list when you Google Non-B thailand requirements.

- When you have all these documents, you apply for a WP3 Letter at the Labour Ministry

you have to show some more documents like education, resume, passport copies etc...

It takes 2-3 weeks to get that WP3 letter processed

- With all these documents together, you go to a neighboring country, preferably Penang

and you should have no problem getting your non-B

Dont even go there unless you have that WP3 form

They will straight out deny the application

- With your non-B valid for 3 months, you come back to Thailand and apply for the Work Permit

Again, some documents have to be presented

It takes about 2 weeks to pick it up

- After that, you can apply for a new non-B every 3 months for the duration of your work permit's validity

Sounds all complicated, but it isn't since most of the documents have to come from the company that employs you

Good luck

Not sure the OP wants to apply in Australia or has residency there.

I have been writing about nearby locations that do require the work application be done.

A WP3 can only be done for a person that is not in the country.

He cannot apply for a work permit here in the country due to being on a extension based upon retirement.

Ooops, sorry, my apologies. I thought it would work the same way.

I was in Thailand whilst waiting for the WP3.
It took a bit longer than 2 weeks, but I got it.

However, I used an agent, maybe she got around it more easily.

She did mention that new rules state you have too be outside of Thailand.

If not, you have to apply for a WP1 instead of a WP3
(In my opinion, the labor office cannot really check if you are in or out of Thailand, i mean, you could leave Thailand after lodging the application right?)

If you are teaching I would highly recommend you make multiple visits to the school as well as speak to foreign teachers. To unwind a B visa and go back to O is a hassle. If you plan on continuing to work, looking for another job that is a big complicated mess. Be certain it's what you want.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

Some consulates & embassies only need to see an invitation letter & copy of company registration to issue a 90 day non-B, I've one that twice in a row - once with a BOI company that turned out to be completely nonreliable, and now with my own, newly established company.

Not sure if the same is possible with a school, some additional documents might be necessary. However, if the wording in the invitation letter implies that there will be a series of meetings to discuss a position with them, then the criteria should be fulfilled.

You would then have 30 days to get the work permit processed, or could even just spend the 90 days on the visa if it does NOT come through. I did that on my first business visa, don't think there is anything wrong with that, as I was invited to do an actual trial/discussions on employement, and then it did not work out.

Penang seems to be liberal these days, Hong Kong just changed to only giving out business visas to people on an active work permit I read somewhere here...

Not an expert on these things at all, but this is what eventually led to me getting the first work permit here ????
