MrBrad
For those interested, this coming Saturday, the 14th, there will be cremation ceremonies for this past year's cadavers from the medical school at Chiang Mai University. In a typical year the students generally require over 500 donated bodies, and once a year in December the cadavers are cremated at วัดลัฏฐิวัน (พระนอนขอนตาล) Latthiwan Temple (Wat Pra Nawn Kawn Tahn) near Mae Rim. The preparations are over a 3-day period, with the proper ceremony being on Saturday starting around 8 and continuing into the mid-afternoon. The large temple is located just west of the river and south of the Mae Rim-Mae Jo Highway 1260 bridge. Access to the temple can be made along Highway 1260 using either the local streets or the now-open entrance to the new Mae Rim Hospital site. Another option is to come from the south on the road behind the Green Valley golf course.
Puwa
Thanks for posting this, Mr B. In many countries, those cadavers would face an unceremonious end. I think it's commendable that their lives and deaths and ultimate service to the practice of medicine are afforded respect and recognition according to local custom.
