I got an O type non immigrant last year which expires in May. I wanted to utilise this visa a week before it expires (I'm in the UK at present) therefore getting three trips from the same visa.

Due to the recent regulation changes I checked up with the Hull Consulate website and was surprised to read that the visa must cover all of the trip. Below is the relevant paragraph from the document along with the website it came from. My question is simple. Is this true?

Entry with Visa Persons, whatever their age, not eligible to enter Thailand under the “Visa Exemption Rule” or the “Visa on Arrival Rule” must be in possession of a valid Tourist Visa or Non-Immigrant Visa, which must cover their entire period of stay in Thailand, before they attempt to enter Thailand.

I assume you have a UK passport and are thus allowed visa exempt entry and thus not subject to the quote you provided.

If you arrive in Thailand before the May expiration of your multi entry non immigrant O visa you will receive a stay of 90 days just like on any other entry of a non immigrant visa.

Thanks for that. Yes a UK passport but it still reads to me that the visa must cover the whole trip. Read the webpage, maybe one paragraph was out of context.

A visa means absolutely nothing once you enter Thailand. You do not require a valid visa to be in Thailand. You require a valid permitted to stay stamp from Immigration. And that does not require a visa that is valid for longer than your entry day.

I have read your quote in context. It certainly does apply to you. But you need not be in the least concerned.

You are a British passport holder. As such you are not eligible to enter Thailand under the visa exemption rule if you intend to enter for other than tourism or for tourism for longer than 30 days. And you are not eligible for Visa on Arrival. In those circumstance the document instructs you to obtain a visa (which you have). The reference to the visa covering the entire period of stay is simply a warning not to enter Thailand with intent or possibility of overstaying.

Where the quoted clause is misleading is that it should correctly read that the period of stay permitted by that visa must cover your entire period of proposed stay. Rest assured you can enter on the last day of validity and still get 90 days which is the point made by Lopburi.

Of course you can intend to stay longer than a visa permits by obtaining an extension (of permission to stay) so in that respect the quote is inaccurate.

Unfortunately this quote by itself is misleading without reading in full PDF document context; and the portion on entry without visa is flat wrong when it says you require 20k/40k for entry, The no visa entry amount is 10k single or 20k family last time I checked.

There are other errors.

It says, boldly in red print, only 3 visa free entries may be made in a 6 month period.

It says Brazilians are only allowed 30days whereas, as highlighted in another current topic, it is 90days.

More errors if anyone can be bothered to look.

Conclusive proof of the need for a forum such as this.
