How to open paint can?

Can someone tell me how to open this paint can?  Thanks.

Grab hold of that bit of plastic sticking out with a pair of pliers and pull off the plastic strip that encircles the can, then a screw driver will pop the lid...

You are supposed to pull the tab and remove the band all the way around. They can be a PITA.

 

I have to use pliers to pull the band off, then a screwdriver to pry the top off.
