You cannot change the reason the non-o visa was issued for.

You can apply for a one year extension of the 90 day permit to stay your non-o visa allowed based upon retirement.

To apply for the extension based upon retirement you will need 800k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the 2 totaling 800k baht.

Hi,Thanks Joe, I was scared I would have to go back to Savannakhet too apply for a new non o based upon retirement but I can just extend this visa for 1 year if I meet all the requirements if I understand your post correct. Thanks for the info

You will be extending your permit to stay not your visa. Everything else is correct.

If you needed more time to get ready for the extension application you could apply for a 60 day extension to visit your child and then the one year extension during the last 30 days of the 60 days.

Did this two years ago and Joe is correct. It is much easier than faffing about with pictures all over the place, paperwork and taking your partner and child to the IO for inspection. The IO are happier too as it is less paperwork for them. Only problem is you need to transfer more than 800K now to survive 5 months where you cannot touch your money that you supposedly transferred to use as living expenses. All so they can stop agents putting the money in the bank for clients? I would have thought that the agents can still put the money in. Only now they make more on interest because of the longer time the money is in the bank.

Agents must be deliriously happy with the new rules that brown envelopes are winging their way ever higher. Good luck with the application, should be a breeze.

I will be doing the same, almost at the same time as you...and I can confirm the above answers since I just talked about it at my immigration office.

The only thing of note, besides the much lower volume of paperwork involved, is that the new extension will start on the day of application, and not the day after the former extension expires...

He has a 90 day non-o visa entry not a existing extension of stay. The extension will start at the end of the 90 day entry not from the date of application.
