Dear all,

I recently got a job in a BOI promoted (i.e., BOI-registered) company, based in Bangkok. When applying for the visa, I had to go through the (apparently) new e-visa system. In this e-visa system, one has to select the "Purpose of his/her travel". I hesitated between two choices: "Investing in a BOI-registered company/Working in a BOI-registered company" and "Employment". I selected the first option.
Then, the system automatically fill-in the corresponding visa category. It was "IB" in my case. At the beginning, I was pretty confused for two reasons: first, I thought that "IB" stood for "Immigrant B", as it was my first time seeing that particular category of visa. Second, the website of the Royal Thai Embassy in my country usually wrote "non B" visa, so it strengthen my opinion that "IB" actually meant "Immigrant B" and hence "non-IB" was for "non-immigrant B".

So I got the visa yesterday but I am still a bit worried. I am seeing a lot of different information on the internet. Some websites are writing that this type of visa is for investing in BOI companies, others that it is for working in BOI companies, others that it is for creating your business in Thailand ...

On the BOI and MFA websites, it is written that this visa is designed for foreign workers that work in investment projects that are under the auspices of the Board of Investment.

What does it even mean? Does it simply mean that you have to work or invest in a BOI-registered company? Is it a correct visa for working under a BOI company? Will I have some troubles to get my work permit?

I do apologize if my questions look dumb but I am pretty anxious. Furthermore, it seems that not everything is working perfectly in sync between Thailand and their embassies since they have bring the e-visa system...

Thanks. That is also what I think too. But that visa seems so uncommon that I am never sure ... Anyway, Thailand's e-visa website gave me that category when I selected the "Working under a BOI-registered company" so it is probably the correct category.

Have a good day sir, and thanks for your time!
