More evidence that Thai criminal system is pretty much of a joke...

It's the same anywhere. Two many liberals around who plead on behalf of criminals who couldn't give a rat's fart about them or anyone else. The recent killings on London Bridge is a classic example, with do-gooders trying to 'rehabilitate' terrorists whose only aim in life is to kill as many innocent people as possible who don't agree with their ideology. Some people simply live in a different world and it's pointless trying to build a bridge from it, be they terrorists or simply murderers like this piece of excrement.

The public has heaped praises on the two train passengers who provided information to the police, leading to the arrest of alleged murder suspect Somkid Pumpuang.

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, boarded a train travelling from Nakhon Ratchasima province to Bangkok and seated opposite to a man wearing a hat and a mask.

The behaviour of the man then began to attract their attention as he was always turning his face to the wall as if he did not want to be recognised.

Their suspicion heightened when they saw a scar on his left eyebrow, matching the police description of Somkid’s appearance.

The couple was terrified but still attempted to take his picture before moving to another train car where they contacted the police.

They kept up a watch on Somkid until the police arrived at Pak Chong train station.

The chief of Kranuan Police Station in Khon Kaen province, which is handling the recent murder case of a 51-year-old woman, handed over Bt50,000 to the couple in appreciation of the information they had provided.

"He'd previously served 14 years for killing 5 people" so just under 3 years for each murder? Why the hell was he not hung or shot for killing 5 people? Only in Thailand.

An thai hitman shot/killed 9 People, at his 9th year in prison he stabbed 3 to death, he Only server total 13 years in prison.

This is normal in thailand, to either get ball on murder charges and kill again, or Only get few years and det out.

Yes, if the rehabilitation outside the walls should start in the decision makers own home then we may assume their decisions had been a bit different ....

Somkid was released from prison in May having been pardoned for good behaviour. He had previously served 14 years in jail for killing 5 women he met in karaoke bars

Basically this means he didn't try to kill anyone in prison.

He just waited until he was released.

I usually have no comment about how Thailand works. But in this case I had to read this more then once to make sure I wasn't reading it wrong. This guy previously killed 5 women as a serial killer, and 14 years later he is let out for good behavior and then hKhon Kaene murders again?!!!!!! It's to insane to be believed!

Everyone involved in the decision to let this man out of jail should share the cell along with him.

I hope the family of the latest murder victim in Khon Kaen are suitably compensated for the loss that should never of happened?

It is a problem in Thailand that it has over populated prisons. Many are likely for  minor  incidences ranging upwards to the level of this guy is is more than likely a psychopath of the  highest order. Dangerous  but   not at all stupid in knowing  how to manipulate. Good  behaviour? He was  just  playing  the  game he  knows  best. There  are many in  every culture and society similar except  most are  not so willing to  kill.

A bit off topic but that is a gross oversimplification and misrepresentation of how the London Bridge Stabber II got 'early release'. A combination of the incorrect application of an ill-conceived Labour policy in 2008, concerns from the EU Court of Human Rights (that the subsequent Tory government chose to mostly ignore) but more tellingly, the austerity-driven measures that accelerated prisoner remand and detention being farmed out to private security and catering companies with no clue that feeding and watching over bad people was a totally different ballgame from feeding and looking after the good ones.

Anyway, he's dead now so moot point.

Either get a new keyboard, use some punctuation or calm down before you post.

Yep.  If it is him then he should be put down faster than a rabid dog.

Ah. "If it is him." Are you willing to wait to prove it one way or the other? I notice most of the posters here are not, but often enough they are happy to accuse the Royal Thai Police of incompetence, stupidity, and corruption. Is it possible that this guy is just a handy scapegoat? Anyway, if he's convicted he won't be getting out again, and since the police have made such a big deal of arrresting him he's pretty likely to be convicted.
