Consumer Protection Board opposes toll fee increase

The Consumer Protection Board has voiced its objection to Don Muang Toll Way Company’s plan to increase the toll fee by 10 baht, effective December 22nd, on the grounds that it will adversely affect transport operators and consumers.

Board chairman Mana Lohavanich said today (Thursday) that the board would ask Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to instruct the Highways Department to negotiate with the Don Muang Toll Way Company to delay or suspend the fee increase, for the Uttrapimuk route and the Don Muang toll way, until there is a ruling from the Supreme Administrative Court.

The cabinet, in May this year, designated the Highways Department, through the Transport Ministry, to amend the concession contract with the toll way company and the Consumer Protection Board rejected the company’s offer of 5% discounts for motorists who buy a set of 20 toll tickets, noting that this was just a sales promotion, not a true toll reduction.

According to the concession contract, the toll fee increases every five years by ten baht, until the expiry of the contract in 2034.

These stupid tollways are still jammed a lot of the time. Fix that first because its already of no value. Even queuing up at tolls to pay can take up to 30minutes while there is empty booths. I dont live in bkk so dont need a tag but maybe they should be enforced to be used or have a call service to pay after or before travelling like some other countries. I guess you will end up with fake plates used and no one pays then police checks holding things up anyway.

Amazing thailand...
