Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit

The Office of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) on Tuesday (November 19) issued an announcement referring to an accusation made against Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit for lending money to his own party, which may be a violation of election and political party law according to article 66 of Political Party Act B.E. 2560.

The law prohibits the donation of money, assets or any benefits to a political party exceeding Bt10 million per year.

The Election Commission’s meeting ,which was attended by investigating officers and members of the complaint-handling subcommittee, unanimously agreed that there are grounds for investigation and therefore demanded Future Forward Party to submit any evidence and documents pertaining to the abovementioned transaction to the complaint-handling subcommittee as soon as possible so that the investigation can start with transparency and with justice to all parties.

What part of loan challenges these dinosaurs. They can write off the loans at 10mil Baht a year to comply with the laws.

Either it is a violation or it isn't but I suppose with most things Thai its up to someone's interpretation or just how their feeling on any particular day .

I think it comes down to was it a donation or a loan to be paid back?

Technicalities on both sides on which way you want to interpret it... the same goes for the EC or the constitutional court.

Down to a sunless sea...the most overtly corrupt nation in Asia.

Hmm, not sure I think Cambodia can teach them a thing or two about corruption and dictatorship.

Yes, loans are repaid- contributions are not.  If they use this interpretation, then the government has violated many laws but giving “contributions” to many in Thailand.  You cannot alter definitions

You'd have thought so. But then again, either he was a shareholder or he wasn't.

Things that are black and white in the real world are never ever so clear here.

Like Hun Seng in Cambodia. Destroy the threat to you. Thailand still is a dictatorship. Farcical elections and nothing really has changed. Is the government required to hand over documents of all the money businessmen loaned to them?
