You would honestly think though, even if ignorant about what the uniform stands for, that somebody, just going by numerous past examples of nazi imagery in Thailand and the resulting bad press, would say that this is maybe not such a good idea.

Mr. Schlomo and most readers here must have seen pictures taken from other angles and well enlarged, well, at least I guess so, as, the far I can see here, it are two WW2 German Wehrmacht uniforms, no doubt, as any other military stuff would be, totally out-of-place, tasteless, at Christmas celebrations, but I am getting tired of the automatic equation "German = nazi" when relating to the 1930 to 45 period, especially when it fits into the agenda of a certain group of people who want to go on pushing the image of being victims, they were, alas, very much, at the time, "eventually" to blank-off the image of perpetrators they largely deserve in the Middle-East for over 70 years now.

so men dressing as women is OK, but men dressing like warriors is not OK....  strange...

I frankly doubt that, there are many examples of a weak and laissez-faire population going along with a charismatic leader just to get along, rather than as the result of sharing a social philosophy.

 

If you put on your thinking cap and think really hard.  you'll probably come up with a pretty good example of just that rather closer to home than Prussia.

Surprising indeed, especially when  considering that if Pol Pot had succeeded, guess which neighbouring country would have been next... or the one after that.

We teach the real WW2 history at the international school where I work, but I assume in normal Thai schools they are taught a nicely doctored version of events. 

 

It is just embarrassingly ignorant from Thailand as usual.

I have written to Daryl F Zanuck about all those actors and extras in his film "The Longest Day" being dressed in German Army uniforms and I suggested (most strongly) that the film be remade with them in dirndl dresses instead.

 

Thus we can remake history.

From my mostly bad experiences whilst living in Thailand; the land of frowns and back stabbing, I've found most Thai to be racist.

 

I'm in the hope that Israel stands firm by putting their foot down with other nations following their lead.
