Hi All,

I've visited the US a few times. I have lived and worked in BKK for many years with all the correct visa and work permit, and want to take my GF (of 2 years) there for a 1 week holiday at Songkran, during her university holiday break. She lives with me, I support her. We have traveled internationally several times. I need to get back for work, and she needs to get back for Uni'. We can substantiate everything.

I've read and heard many stories of how it is so difficult for a Thai national to get a tourist visa to USA. To me, it seems blatantly obvious that she would be a legitimate tourist and the chances of her skipping out and trying to stay there as an illegal immigrant are slim (which I understand is USA's main concern).

So it should be relatively straight forward, right? Is it advisable to pay an "agent" to assist with preparing the documents etc. (I am not suggesting bribery here, rather the assistance of someone that knows the system and can expedite efficiently)? Or is it easy and straight forward? How long does it take, from application to approval? I am keep to book flights and hotels etc. sooner rather than later, as prices will start going up soon.

Many tanks in advance.

This is always the thorny one.

Don't pay an agent, the application is pretty straightforward.

It's that issue of convincing the CO that she has a compelling reason to return to Thailand, and not simply disappear into the Thai diaspora.

The CO's are very aware that the US is home to the largest Thai diaspora outside of Asia, and that's their fear.

She will know at the interview whether the visa is approved or not. They either tell them they are denied, or they keep the passport and you get it back in a couple of days with the visa.

Get as much documentation from the Uni regarding her courses, estimated graduation etc. They usually want to see money in the bank.

Don't book any tickets, at least no non refundable ones, until the visa is approved

USA citizen with the same desire. Many men bring Asian wife/GF to US with no intention of her returning home, hence the difficult process, if you think that is rough try being your Thai Wife to America, you have to sign document you will give her $10,000 to return to thailand if divorced and prove you have the money to do it. And a child born is the US is a automatic citizen.

I have not tried this before despite the current Thai GF being my second thai GF. I dont want her to stay (yet LOL) but just a week or two.

Thanks for the reply. Since I am not a US citizen then the risk of her not returning to Thailand is low - but I can see how authorities are worried about US citizens bringing their Thai GF for "long holidays" and just not going back. Fingers crossed ????

I've never heard about 10,000$ promise for USA  Visa?  Is this the K1 or CR1? I know there is a financial support document  I thought on the k1 but not 10,000 spelled out.  AMD not same form required for CR1
