Postal recommendation

Hi,

just wondering what solution long-term residents use for getting mail sent out from home. We’re coming out soon for a few months and need to get mail redirected from home. We have a friend who’ll take care of it, but not sure if we can get mail sent to our villa. Do others use P.O. Boxes, poste restante or just get it sent directly to their address? Any idea how long it takes for mail from Western Europe and is it reliable?

Thanks for any advice!

John

If the mail is important , use DHL or something . Only takes 2-3 days to arrive and costs about 50 quid for a large envelope filled with smaller letters or get local mail that you need to sign for, costs a few quid and takes a few weeks to arrive

I use standard post, takes about one week from western Europe to my shop address.

Very reliable, only thing gone missing was post from the bank, so we have that sent in a neutral envelope now.

And since you posted on the Phuket forum, it may be good to know that is to Kata, Phuket.

Yeah, regular mail from the UK, takes 1-2 weeks (sometimes a lot faster).

Use Royal Mail - International Signed For (or whatever your local equivalent is), cheaper than registered and tracked all the way.

Although the postman is suppose to know the area he is delivering the mails, often I have mails delivered to the wrong address in my post box.

I have arranged for a family member to send my re-directed mail to poste restante to the nearest post office to me.  Mail from western Europe usually takes 1 to 2 weeks to arrive.  The only inconvenience is you may have to go to the post office a couple of times to check if your mail has arrived.  You need some form of identification (document with photo) when you collect your mail.

Areas will vary, but most issues tend to be the last link in the chain being the delivery by the postman. To avoid this get a PO Box at your local Post Office for around 500 baht for a yr. Go get your mail when you like and you won't have the last link in the chain issue.
