  • You didn't spend any time in Thailand in 2019 before this arrival?   I guess this was part of the problem:

  • I suggest you just ignore your bad experience. The chances of it happening again are very low.  You were unfortunate to of entered when a rogue crew of officers were on duty.

  • That's right, my entry was in November 2018. It's just frustrating that there are no clear set of rules to follow.

OP really?? you're questioned one time and that causes you to be so negative towards Thailand?

I assume you dont travel much, as it's not uncommon to be questioned.  I'm from the USA, there have been times upon returning to the US I'm pulled and asked detailed questions.  I've been questioned in Vietnam in the past. It happens.

A few holes in your post. It is certainly not hard to get into Thailand, from Wiki..

Thailand currently offers visa-free travel to nationals of 64 countries and territories.

Also you talk of tourism, yet use the words 'stay in the country'...  different things entirely.

Thailand is not totally dependent on tourism, it's less than 20% of GDP, the country is however dependent on exports.

And it's actually surprisingly easy to get into Thailand, as long as you do some basic things like don't tell the IO that you plan to stay in the country, unless you have the appropriate visa.
