Motorbike Insurance

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what the motorbike insurance i pay every year at the bike shop is for as i cant get a straight answer from them,i would like to find out incase i have to upgrade the insurance to cover in case of a accident.or theft. They told me it is incase i have a accident and they will fix the bike, but what happens if there is another vehicle involved does it cover the cost to repair that one as it would probably be my fault anyway (feelang fault as allways) hope some one can help me on this

I believe the insurance that is required, and which is represented by an annual round sticker on your bike, is for public liability - the damage you do to other people's property, or to their bodies. Unless you've got a special bike, you may not have insurance to cover damages to your property or your body.

It's a Motoring in Thailand question, so I'll move this to that forum of ThaiVisa.

Did you get a copy of the policy? If not and you paided about 400 baht it is for the basic govt insurance and sticker that is required on all vechiles. Some dealers will sell you additional insurance for theft (usually about 2000 baht/year). But what you REALLY need is a policy that has a bond on it (200,000 baht minimun would be a good starter) and states it in writing. If you do not have an insurance policy with a bond amount listed you will go to jail till you prove you have enough money to cover the damages.

I just got this insurance from a reputable insurance brooker:

Third party bodily injury or death: 200,000/person 10,000,000/accident

Third party property damage: 400,000/occurance

Personal accident driver: 10,000/person

Medical expenses driver: 10,000/person

Bail Bond: 200,000/occurence

Deductable: 500/claim

Cost 3,105 to 3,317 per year depending size of bike.

I just bought a motorcycle, registred etc. in my name. I tried to quiz my girlfriend about what the

insurance I got covered, and she quized the bikeshop, and they agreed it covered damage to

both third party, myself, and passenger. I was somewhat dubious about this though, as I afaik

only have the mandatory insurance, and doubted it would cover all the cases.

So, I guess they were wrong. Can somebody recomend a reputable insurance brooker?

I'm in Chiang Mai btw.

Thanks,
