Puttipong Punnakanta

Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) Puttipong Punnakanta said today (January 6) he would propose the merger plan of CAT Telecom (CAT) and TOT to the Cabinet tomorrow (January 7) or next week.

The minister planned to merge the two state enterprises as NT Telecom. On December 17, he discussed the matter with the chairmen of CAT and TOT in the presence of the labour union presidents of both organisations.

The meeting concluded that the two state enterprises should be merged, pending Cabinet approval.

Also, the minister said MDES had deployed an efficient digital infrastructure nationwide and established an international internet network to attract digital investment in Thailand.

Besides, MDES is expediting the use of digital technology and big data, aimed at increasing people’s income and improve their lives, especially low-income earners, farmers, and those in remote areas.

What does TOT bring to the table? Of all the people I know, I'm the only one that still has a land line phone. My wife pestered them for months because it only worked intermittently. They sent people out several times, no result. Has finally been repaired, but seriously what they have besides a bunch of poles overloaded with internet provider, tv cable and other <deleted> that probably should have been removed years ago, escapes me.

Do you think that the only ToT business is land lines?

For decades this dinosaur treatment is overdue, but where to go with all those surplus Somchais and Somsaks?

Had both, CAT and TOT installing equipment with the same human grid. One worked, one said how it is done and the rest was playing on smart phones. So much to competitiveness and efficiency.
