Aileen Chew, Mastercard Country Manager for Thailand and Myanmar, today (January 6) announced a partnership with Thai soccer star Chanathip “Messi Jay” Songkrasin, making him the company’s first Thai ambassador. Chanathip is a member of the Thai national team and currently plays for Janpan's J League side Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. As a Mastercard Thailand ambassador, Chanathip joins an elite group of sports superstars including Naomi Osaka, Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Dan Carter, Bryan Habana, Annika Sorenstam, Ana Ivanovic and Valeri Kamensky. Chanathip is featured in the Mastercard Thailand Red Ball campaign, which highlights priceless moments through the company’s industry leading “Tap & Go” contactless payments technology - promoting faster, more convenient and secure payments for consumers and merchants.

Mastercard, a leading global payments and technology company and one of the most active sponsors of major sporting events, January 6announced a partnership with Thai football superstar, Chanathip Songkrasin, making him the first Thai national to join its roster of brand ambassadors.

Chanathip, known affectionately in Thailand as “Messi Jay” for his similar stature and style to Argentinian football star Lionel Messi, will begin his official involvement as a Mastercard ambassador through the company’s global ‘Red Ball’ campaign.

The global Red Ball campaign highlights Mastercard’s industry leading “Tap & Go” contactless payments technology which promotes the increased speed, convenience and security of payments for consumers and merchants. The Mastercard Red Ball campaign includes digital and TV spots featuring other Mastercard global ambassadors including Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Dan Carter, Bryan Habana, Annika Sorenstam, Ana Ivanovic and Valeri Kamensky.

The Mastercard Red Ball campaign debuted in more than 45 global markets, and the customised Thai version featuring Chanathip and fellow global sports superstars including Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr went live in Thailand at the end of December 2019. It captures the story of how these legends, aided by Mastercard Contactless "Tap & Go" payments technology helped retrieve a little girl’s lost red ball.
