Six year old whacked by municipal worker

Sanook reported on an argument between neighbors after a picture was posted on Facebook of a six year old boy who had been whacked around the face by a municipal council worker.

Six year old "A" had a clear mark of a palm on his face. His elder sister had recorded what happened to him.

His father Daeng, 52, complained that if his son had been naughty a swift smack on the bottom would have sufficed - not a whack around the face.

Still, he was prepared to let bygones be bygones especially as they were neighbors in the same estate.

So he approached Niran and said 1,000 baht would settle it - he had taken his son to the hospital.

When he was given only 500 baht he went to the police.

Niran said he had lost his temper after he bought his daughter a radio controlled car for a New Year present and that "A" was causing trouble.

He warned him and the boy stuck his tongue out - he lost his temper and lashed out.

He had subsequently apologised to the boy.

Sanook did not report if the police had taken any action in the matter.

It was noted that the man who committed the assault is the husband of the kamnan (a local village leader). She had allegedly posted disparaging comments on Facebook about the other family.

Good job on setting a great example of what it means to be an adult to a child.

True (in the ironic sense you intend).

Meanwhile Dad is charging 1000baht a time for people to slap his kid, and only goes to the police when they refuse to pay the full rate.

They are what they are.

Sums it up there..

I can quite imagine some Thai 6 years olds deserving a smack and many more adults.

50 baht for the kid, 950 for whiskey and a night out for him

Troll comments removed.

A smack in the face is inappropriate at any age.  Next time ask for 10k baht...the police are more likely to be interested...

Indeed. Anxious to protect her husband and/or demonstrate she's so powerful her family can't be messed with she allegedly fires off on FB,

Now, if she has made disparaging comments, then the other family may well consider a claim for defamation and complain to police who must also open a criminal case. Might end up with more than the 1k!

Kids are kids. They're not supposed to have awareness because they're kids. Impulse control isn't something that children have, well most of them haha. It's understandable to feel like wanting to hit others at times. Kids too, as I can attest to getting frustrated with them. But hitting children, across the face or anywhere is not on. Hitting kids never works. Modelling respect, ownership of what's happening for the adult IS ... and to the child openly. This teaches reflection, control, management, self and other respect, ownership of experience and models good boundaries. Sadly in this and most other cultures such thoughtfulness by adults is almost non existent let alone prevalent. We then sit about with mouths agape wondering why our kids at worst become drug addicts, delinquents, and end up on the wrong side of life.

From the 6-year olds I've seen around and it was a farang that bought the RC car the 6 year old would have been just as likely to tell the farang in English to eff off. Too much farang TV!

more  unnecessary nonsense, they always  run  to a  hospital, have the same here with staff............slightest sniffle  and off to the doctors.

SO would the money (had it been paid) gone to the child for education or other necessities?

Why was the bloke not charged with assault?

Great examples for children, physically abused by neighbours and people wonder why violence is often the default setting

he should have been charged with assault, hitting someone elses kid is not the way to go especially across the face, just shows the typical thai mentality many males and some females have, they think they can do as they please with no repercussions.
