UK's Queen Elizabeth calls Prince Harry for crisis meeting

LONDON (Reuters) - Queen Elizabeth has summoned her grandson Prince Harry for a crisis meeting to discuss future arrangements for him and his wife Meghan following the couple's shock announcement that they want to step back from royal duties.

Harry's father Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, and his elder brother Prince William, will also attend the meeting, due to take place on Monday at the queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk, eastern England, a Buckingham Palace source told Reuters.

Meghan, an American former TV actress, will try to join via telephone from Canada where she returned earlier in the week to rejoin the couple's baby son, Archie.

Harry and Meghan, officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, surprised the rest of the royal family on Wednesday by publicly announcing they wanted a "new working model" that would allow them to spend more time in North America and to be financially independent.

They did not consult the 93-year-old monarch or other members of the family before making their announcement on a new website, https://sussexroyal.com, a move which hurt and disappointed the queen and other royals, according to a royal source.

The meeting on Monday will be the first time the senior royals have met in person to discuss the concerns raised by Harry and Meghan.

Officials had been holding talks behind the scenes since the bombshell statement to try to work out a new arrangement for the couple, and a royal source said those efforts progressed well.

The consultations, which also included the British and Canadian governments, paved the way for a face-to-face meeting between Harry and the queen.

The palace source said it remained the queen's aim to a find a resolution to the crisis in days rather than weeks but it would require "complex and thoughtful discussions" and any agreement would take time to be implemented.

The split between Harry and the other Windsors is the latest crisis the royal family has faced in a period described last month as "bumpy" by the queen in a televised annual address.

Such is the global interest in Harry and Meghan that their news has overshadowed a scandal surrounding the queen's second son Prince Andrew and his friendship with disgraced late U.S. financier Jeffrey Epstein, who hanged himself in jail in August while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

In an emotional TV interview last October, Harry admitted he and William had fallen out.

The Sunday Times newspaper said the elder prince had spoken of his sadness at the rift. The brothers were close for years following the death of their mother Princess Diana in a Paris car crash in 1997.

The newspaper quoted William as saying to an unnamed friend: "I've put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can't do that any more, we're separate entities.

"I'm sad about that. All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we're all singing from the same page. I want everyone to play on the team."

Earlier on Saturday, the Times newspaper reported that Meghan had agreed to do voiceover work for Disney <DIS.N> in return for the company making a donation to a charity she supports that works to protect elephants.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman had no immediate comment on the report. Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Which is fine as long as its not the public who pay the wage bills. Flying in and out to meetings, surely not in economy class, tickets courtesy of who? The team are performing horribly and in danger of relegation to the minor leagues.

I'm beginning to think that the sitcom 'The Windsors'  is actually a fly on the wall documentary.

If they want to leave, fine just go. But dont drag the British Royal Family through the dirt for your dumb woke agenda. Just give up your titles and your funding and feckoff to LA to do the talkshow circuit with your dominating B movie actress wife.

Best to part with that dysfunctional family, and move on to a happier life. They seem to love the laid back attitude and non pretentious people of west coast Canada, and feel very welcome there as a part of the community, not as celebrities. Canada is a perfect fit being similar to America in many ways, but with close ties to the old British Commonwealth in the days before Canada was stabbed in the back and sold out by Britain to join the EU. I think his mother would have agreed they are making the right choice.

Markle loves the attention. But a bit like Posh Spice, she likes to pretend she hates it.

She wont last more than 2 months being treated like a normal person in Canada. She will be off to LA pretending to be annoyed by (but really loving) all the attention as she leaves restaurants with other woke celebrities.

Markle doesn't annoy me. Shes like the scorpion in the frog/scorpion tale but Harry has mugged himself off and needs sort himself out. I get that he's in need of a domineering woman after losing his mother so young but he is taking it too far.

I support Megxit almost as much as I support Brexit. As long as it's a hard Megxit.

Two quotes from Mark Twain pretty much sum it up:

There are shams and shams; there are frauds and frauds, but the transparentest of all is the sceptered one. We see monarchs meet and go through solemn ceremonies, farces, with straight countenances; but it is not possible to imagine them meeting in private and not laughing in each other's faces.
- Mark Twain's Notebook

I wish I might live fifty years longer; I believe I should see the thrones of Europe selling at auction for old iron. I believe I should really see the end of what is surely the grotesquest of all the swindles ever invented by man-- monarchy.
- Letter to Sylvester Baxter of Boston Herald, 1889

I made a major career change at 34 years old, almost everybody thought it was a wrong move. Best thing I ever did. Good luck Harry, Meghan and Archie.

PS .... I never told my granny either!

Not so sure they are anymore? but the media is still in the business of controlling minds & constantly fills the press with mindless drivel.

Friction caused by Megan's popularity which annoyed Catherine and led to the brothers split . Megan & Harry are and will remain the two most popular members of the royal family .

Is Andrew in the clear yet ? R/F diminishing

This is a high stakes poker game...

As I recall it was not that long ago when Harry lost more than his shirt in a game of billiards in Vagus.

I think you will find that it is Megan who is throwing a tantrum, when she is less popular than Catherine, and is expected to bow and curtsy to her.

I doubt that it was Markle's "popularity" that annoyed Catherine - I think it far more likely that she tried to point out what the expectations were and got a "I'll do as I please" back. Agree, Harry was (was) much more popular than William right up until the marriage caused a personality change, maybe still is.

A bunch of inbred German carpetbaggers. Good riddance to the lot of them.

I think you will find most Brits are of a mixed European race somewhere down the line as proved by DNA with the exception being some of the Welsh .

Harry knows he  is getting getting left out of the loop by his father Charles and his brother William

Charles is down sizing only him William and direct descendants for the Throne

Harry might as well do his own thing let the rest of them get on with it

Could change his name to something ordinary like..............oh, I don't know,................... Hewittson or something like that.

I understand Harry might get a long term visa for Canada because they are part of the Commonwealth. How does Megan get to live in Canada ? Canada isn't a place Americans can just go live, there are hoops and red tape I'v read.

You're right.

But look I got a Labrador and I paid his fare to Europe, what was expensive. And he gets good food and is happy to be fondled. So I spend a lot of money.

He's a lovely pet.

So don't be so harsh with the Englanders.

Grant everybody to have a pet and to care for them. ????????????
