The Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Monday (January 13) that the westerly trough at high altitude still blows cold air from the Himalayas to the North of Thailand while the weak high-pressure system covers upper Thailand and South China Sea.

Cool to cold mornings are still forecast with possible isolated patchy fog but fair skies during the day in the North and the Northeast. All transport should proceed with caution in foggy areas.

The department report also mentioned southeasterly winds blowing across the Central and the East including Bangkok and its vicinity, with isolated thundershowers. The Easterly winds over the South and the Gulf will reduce rains in the South.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:

Northern region: Cool to cold weather with fog in the morning and thick fog in some areas, temperature lows of 13-20 degrees Celsius and highs of 30-35 degrees Celsius. Temperature likely to drop to 2-12 degrees Celsius on hilltops with frost in some areas.

Northeastern region: Cool weather with fog in the morning, temperatures lows of 17-20 degrees Celsius and highs of 32-33 degrees Celsius. Temperature likely to drop to 9-14 degrees Celsius on hilltops.

Central region: Cool weather with fog in the morning and thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 21-22 degrees Celsius, highs of 34-36 degrees Celsius.

Eastern region: Partly cloudy with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; lows of 22-24 degrees Celsius, highs of 30-35 degree Celsius; waves lower than a metre high.

Southern region (east coast): Partly cloudy with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; lows of 22-24 degrees Celsius, highs of 30-33 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high.

Southern region (west coast): Partly cloudy with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; lows of 22-26 degrees Celsius and highs of 31-34 degree Celsius; waves a metre high.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Partly cloudy with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; lows of 25-26 degrees Celsius, highs 32-34 degrees Celsius.
