DaRoadrunner
Isn't cock fighting illegal here? So how come they show it on Thai TV?

No but gambling is, it happens all over Thailand, every village has cock fighting rings (chicken boxing as it is called) of course it involves gambling why else do it. Muay Thai boxing also looks to me like it based on chicken boxing and of course it is gambled on even when kids are involved. I would stick to throwing darts at balloons but that's banned now, not cruel cock fighting.

sirocco
There are at least 2 channels dedicated to cock fighting, and cruelty is present, in the midst of a cheering, excited crowd. And it would surprise me that this does not give rise to bets. What hypocrisy on the part of Thailand!
Prairieboy
One solution for the gambling mania as well as attracting tourists would be to legalize casinos so those who wish to gamble could do so, legally. Now they spend their money in neighbouring countries.
