In the early hours of Tuesday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Santi from Pattaya Police Station dealt with a case of attempted suicide from Naklua. Khun Utai aged 30 was taken to Banglamung Hospital after the ordeal. She works at the Tiger Beer Bar in Naklua and was taken to hospital by the foreign owner of the bar. It appears that Khun Utai has just broken up with her foreign boyfriend and on this night she became drunk and climbed on to the top of a nearby building and threatened to jump. It took Police 30 minutes to persuade her to come down after she constantly shouted the name of her boyfriend and claimed her life was meaningless without him. SOURCE: Pattaya Daily News: April 4th 2007 PATTAYA BAR GIRL SUICIDAL IN BIZARRE SPIRIT‘S POSSESSION Dark and Evil or Distilled....who knows? The case of a distraught, lovelorn, bar girl attempting to commit suicide after her relationship with her farang boyfriend finished turned totally bizarre as she apparently exhibited signs of being posessed by evil spirits on Tuesday night. Following the breakdown of her relationship, Miss La-or Janwateana, aged 32, from Nakhonsawan, a bar girl at the Tiger Beer Bar in Naklua, went on a drinking spree until the early hours of the morning and then apparently decided to commit suicide from the balcony of her 3rd Floor room in a nearby apartment building. Receiving reports of an attempted suicide in process, at 3.30 am, Police Lieutenant Colonel Santi from Pattaya Police Station, sent an investigative team to the scene. When the police arrived, Miss La-or, who had until then only appeared relatively distraught, suddenly started speaking in the voice of a little girl as though possessed, uttering statements such as ““you are supposed to take care of me, but you are not “, amongst other things, and then became totally irate, starting to hurl objects at the police and members of the press. At this juncture, the police, throwing caution to the wind, rushed her and managed to subdue her. She was subsequently taken to Banglamung Hospital where her mental state is being examined. On further questioning of Miss La-or’s co-workers at the Tiger Beer Bar, the police discovered from Ms Pacharin Mahawong, aged 24, a friend of the suicidal lady, that Miss La-or was not a drug taker, nor did she normally indulge excessively in alcohol, merely drinking socially with customers in the bar. Seeking further reasons for Miss La-or’s bizarre behaviour, they further questioned Ms Pacharin and it transpired that another friend, Ms. Toon, who has since left the area, had given Miss La-or a talisman known as a “golden baby”, which some people believe has magical powers and can confer the same on chosen individuals, or render them psychotic, depending on the mental stability of the recipient. Ms Pacharin believes that Miss La-or fell into the latter category as, after putting the “golden baby” in an exalted position on the household shrine, she suddenly started to manifest decidedly bizarre behaviour. Not only that, but she became possessed of super-strength, reminiscent of the effects of crack cocaine. It comes from an ancient mystical Thai story called 'Khun Chang Khun Phenn': Khun Phenn was a warrior who searched for a protective and guiding spirit to defend himself so he (in the story) sliced open the womb of his deceased wife and removed the embryo of his unborn son and then practised an invocation of ritual magick. He then wrapped the baby in a cerement after baking it on an open fire and performed a magickal chant (which I will not reveal for obvious reasons). SOURCE: Pattaya Mail: April 13th 2007 Photograph of possessed girl courtesy of Pattaya Mail A bargirl who was said by her colleagues to be usually perfectly normal ran amok in the early hours of April 3 and threatened to jump off the building. La-Or Janwattana went mad when a child doll spirit allegedly possessed her. Police were called out to the Tiger Beer Bar on the Pattaya-Naklua Road. The bar is housed in a four-story commercial building, with the bar on the ground floor and the upper floors used as lodgings for the staff members. On the third floor an employee named Mrs La-Or Janwattana, a 32-year-old native of Nakhorn Sawan Province, was found smashing a slatted window. The officers tried to persuade her to stop, but she used a broom to hit out at them and they had to back off. She was speaking in a child’s voice saying, “I was taken to be fed and taken care of, but I am not full and now they leave me.” Then she ran to the balcony of the room and threatened to jump. The police rushed her and managed to subdue her. La-Or was then taken to Banglamung Hospital for treatment. Another staff member at the bar, 24-year-old Miss Patcharin Mahawong, told police that La-Or wasn’t crazy, didn’t take narcotics, and didn’t smoke. Sometimes she drank whiskey when she was sitting with a customer, but that was all. Before the incident La-Or had been speaking normally, and then suddenly it was as if a spirit had possessed her. She stood up and her expression changed. She started hitting the other staff members, and the customers fled. Staff tried to restrain her, but she threw them off and ran upstairs to the third floor. La-Or’s friends said that during the evening she had been in a normal mental state, and was planning on making merit to celebrate her birthday on April 3. They believe a baby spirit doll that belonged to La-Or’s friend had possessed her. The friend had been staying in the same room, and had received the doll from a mystic in Chonburi. She had placed it on the Buddhist shrine shelf in the room, but then five days ago she had left the bar and had not taken the doll with her. Miss Utai, aged 30, was eventually coaxed down peacefully and despatched to Banglamung hospital for a checkup where she was said to have recovered from the trauma. She explained later to a social worker that she used to have a farang boyfriend who had deserted her. She had sent emails to the address he had written for her but they had all bounced back. The mobile number she had been given was also a complete waste of time. Under these dire circumstances, she said she had taken to drinking alcohol every day.
