Pattaya: That's the way to do it! Pattaya cops solve gold shop "robbery" in minutes

Pattaya police showed how to wrap up serious crime in a matter of minutes.

The local force were conducting a drill to reassure shopkeepers, the public and tourists in the wake of the Lopburi gold shop heist after three people were shot and 500,000 baht of gold was stolen by a callous lone gunman.

The staged robbery took place at the Aurora gold shop in Big C, South Pattaya yesterday afternoon.

An Aurora branch was also the one hit for real on January 9th.

The robber - in shorts and a fetching hat and mask - handed staff a note in Thai. It said: "This is a "robbery". Put the gold in the bag quietly, don't make a noise. I have a gun".

He then fled with ten baht weight of gold (200,000 baht's worth) on a motorcycle parked outside.

The staff at the shop quickly phoned in a description of the thief and Pattaya's finest swung into impressive action.

An all points bulletin was immediately out to patrols in the area.

The miscreant was soon in custody after being arrested in Soi Phaniat Chang in Central Pattaya three kilometers away.

He was taken back to the gold shop where a quick reenactment was made and a speedy admission of guilt wrapped up the case in next to no time.

In fact it was all over in 15 minutes from robbery to pictures for the press.

Deputy chief of the Pattaya force Pol Lt-Col Nitthat Waenpradap said it had all gone according to plan. He urged shopkeepers to contact police quickly with a description of the appearance of a robber and use the "Police I Love You" app.

He advised gold shops to install inexpensive security shutters to guard against robbery.

But he also advised shops to close down by 9 pm.

This was because after that was a "risky time", he claimed.

So this is how they measure solving crimes here, how long it will take the case to get from to the storyboard and the photo opp session huh? also no mention as to what happened to the loot, was that recovered as well?...

I want to know how he got from South Pattaya Big-C to Soi Yume so quickly... him and the police! Current traffic and road works makes that optimistic!

There was no loot. The whole thing was staged, is how I understand it.

Same as the guy with the red bag, a sop for the media and the public, cos they're floundering around with the real thing, for whatever reason.

It was a drill.

It was not a real robbery, but everyone feels safer now.  ????

Using our commonsense, the gold was still with the guy????after all he hasn't gone far!!

Pattaya Plod are famous for staged robberies.  Check out the one at The Ambassador any day of the week + they've started an off-shoot branch on the Rot Fai road to inconvenience rush hour traffic to the maximum.

Interesting to see if they are so fast in a real robbery!
You have to calculate the reaction time, wake up, finish watching the soap opera ... and, and, and ...????

B.S is a slippery thing indeed!

Criminals were also urged to call the new 'Tell us in advance' hotline:  555

......

Well thats it, home before 9pm for me.

Is that why almost all Happy Hours are before this time?

What a lot of bull s!!!. A total waste of manpower and time. Hope they all got a warm fuzzy feeling!

"Police I Love You" app.

There wouldn't happen to be an app for the other half of the yin-yang, would there? I suspect it would be more popular.

There was no "loot", it was a staged drill.

Edit: ...as everyone else has pointed out already!

"Pol Lt-Col Nitthat Waenpradap said it had all gone according to plan"

What kind of "plan" do real gold shop robbers use?

Photo op face saving result.

The guy in Lopburi was a son of a cop so it took 2 weeks of behind the scenes ‘negotiations’ to see if they were ‘allowed’ arrest him.
