For somewhere between 15 and 30,000 baht he could have bought an electric winch for the front of his truck which would have saved him for more than the cost of repairing his truck.

happens all the time all over the world.  Some great videos on youtube.  But as for high tide, low tide.  Stupid.  It is up to the operator to look at the ramp, the water level, know his vehicle, his tires, the condition of the ramp, etc. and decide  how far down to back his vehicle.  Looks like he decided poorly.  The photo, presumably taken some time around the time of the incident doesn't seem to show a lot of wave action.

electric?   I grew up using manual come alongs a hand winch etc.

Yes I am familiar with that, the trailer is partly in the water and you can winch the boat up onto the ramp. Works for smaller boats. Usually a 2 man job.
