Proxy voting puts 2020 budget bill at risk

Proxy voting by Bhumjaithai MPs, during the recent debate on the Government’s 2020 budget bill, is threatening to render the bill null and void or, at least, to delay the already late disbursement of the budget until May or June.

The Senate unanimously passed the budget bill on Tuesday, after it was endorsed by the House of Representatives on January 11th. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is so concerned that he called an urgent meeting with deputy prime ministers General Prawit Wongsuwan and Dr Wissanu Krea-ngarm, and the director of the Budget Bureau, during the mobile cabinet meeting in the southern province of Narathiwat on Tuesday.

Informed government sources said that the Prime Minister is worried that, if the proxy voting issue is submitted to the Constitutional Court for consideration, disbursement of budget will be very late and will definitely negatively affect Government investment and development plans.

Funny it is only these 2 guys called in. Discussion of article 44 and how to implement to bring it back? Or a new article called Article 4.0? Or maybe discussion of attitude adjustments for MP's? Or will it be draft and change the constitution really fast? Or will it be an emergency decision rendered by the constitutional court for how they interpret the rules? I am sitting on the edge of my seat now for how they will possibly get by this one.

Ah, late paying for the new pool then

No Richard, late disbursement of the budget affects the entire economy, it's such a large amount that the delay in putting that money into the economy has a knock on affect which will lower GDP, disbursement has already been delayed by two months because of political maneuvering.

Then the government should follow protocol. After all, if it was not okay for previous governments to do this, it's especially not okay for the usurpers.

Do it properly or the bill you're passing could end up being worse than a delay.

Ummmm, yes and no! Agreed to a point but at a time when the economy is heading into (very) stormy waters, time is important....these are not normal times.

So again, do it properly! When the economy isn't doing well, don't have people who aren't present voting on something they may very well have no knowledge on. That's backwards and doing the bill a huge disservice.

Oh, are you admitting now the economy isn't looking good?
