There is nothing to convert. I'm not sure why people find it so hard to understand that visas and extensions are different. The non-B visa gives a 90-day entry stamp. After that there is no more visa. It's not non-B, it's not non-O, it's extensions. The visa is gone, done, no longer relevant, not a thing anymore. After that it is extensions. There is no "converting" to non-O, because the person did not convert anything. They changed reason for EXTENSION. They were on a work extensions for 3-years, then on their next extension application they simply changed the reason for that extension and applied for it based on retirement or marriage. The original visa has nothing to do with it because it was gone years ago. You're not on ANY visa. And you haven't been for YEARS. That non-B was gone the moment you entered Thailand with it. It was marked as "USED" and it no longer existed. After that you had EXTENSIONS, those extensions were based on something, and had nothing to do with the visa. Most immigration offices will let you switch reasons for extension without issue, it's just a different checkbox on the extension form, and a few different requirements for the extension. They don't want you switching every year, but when circumstances change you just change the application the following year.
