A friend of mine has just done 3 x 30 day voa and then a 2 month tourist visa and has just extended that for a further month. Can he get another tourist visa by going to a nearby country's Thai Embassy or can he start again with the 30 day voa? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

With things looking like this, Vietnam or Laos looks more appealing than LOS

Unless he can guarantee arriving MORE than 6 months after his initial arrival under the new rules a new TV would be by far the best option.

Maybe that's the safest option, but the best option for many Thaivisa enthusiasts would be for someone to test the waters to discover if it's possible to stay indefinitely on tourist visa followed by 3x 30 day stamps followed by tourist visa.....

This is what we all really want to know.
