"After the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Sathit Pitutecha, and Prof. Dr. Sally Casswell, the head of the international alcohol control assessment team, jointly announced Thailand’s outstanding success in controling alcohol consumption in the country, saying Thailand can be used as a good example for other countries in Asia."

Where is this "joint announcement?"

...or was it made in Thai, after Dr. Sally boarded her flight?

As she sat back in Business or 1st quaffing the free Champagne ????

  • ..are there any stats on how many people die every day from liver disease from drinking lao khao?.. how many people die every day from drunk drivers..  that might temper their praise  a bit..

  • What these people are told is far removed from reality.   Illegal Lao Khao, drunk driving, village shops that will sell to anyone of any age at any time, corrupt police allowing official bar

Well..they must not have got within ICBM range of my village..   Or perhaps they were stopped by the daunting ramparts of empty Lao Khao bottles defended by "The Inebriates' Watch"

This panel does not know much about Thailand.  Maybe on paper but I see consumption in extremes at every Thai event, weddings, funerals, Monk making etc.

These people are the enemy of personal freedom and should be treated with contempt.

Personal stupidity more like, however as a responsible 50 year old adult I don't need a goddamn babysitter.

South Koreans over the age of 15 on average drink 10.9 litres of alcohol a year. ... Thailand was close behind Vietnam at third place in Asia, with 8.3 litres of alcohol a year. Mongolia and China came in fourth and fifth position in Asia at 7.8 litres and 7.6 litres respectively.

What a mouthful of a job description... One of those cushy jobs where you get paid  a bundle with all the benefits just for putting out useless information... I'd like to have this kind of job, How do you get a job like that?...

First, you have to be Thai.

WHAT!

ARE THEY DRUNK!?

What a load of BS!

Not so long ago a senior Thai Munk plus Thai authority encouraged drink.driving.

What a xxxked up place.

They must have been drunk out of their eyeballs, to come to these conclusions!

What a load bs from this commity

Unbelievable and what rubbish! Did the assessment panel take into consideration the many hundreds, if not thousands, of illicit Lao Khao distilleries hidden away throughout the Country? Of course not! A plastic bag containing around half a liter of Lao Khao retails about 20 baht here.

They were particularly impressed with the alcohol sales ban between 2 and 5 PM. Alcoholics, now being thwarted during these hours, amazingly sobered up and switched to Pepsi. Rumor has it that, this restriction has been such a success, that beginning in February, alcohol sales will be restricted to between midnight and 2 AM.

Another B.S story, they need to get in the real world.....
