Landing to Dong Muang and Flying from Suvarnabhumi - time difference?

Featured Replies

Let's say my plane is landing at Dong Muang at 8 am.

Then I will take that free bus to Suvarnabhumi.

From what time would it be reasonable to have scheduled flight from Suvarnabhumi? 3 hour difference? 5?

That very much depends on whether you arrive and / or depart domestic or international.

I'm taking domestic to Don Muang. And after that I'm flyting back to Europe from Suvarnabhumi.

3h as in between arrival @ DMK and departure from BKK? Super risky. ~6h seems safe-ish, but there still is a risk.

But why don't you fly in the night before, overnight near BKK and take the flight to Europe in the morning? Lots of places to stay on every price level, most offer free (or cheap) transfers to the airport and you have a stress free journey.

I have been doing that for a while, when living in southern TH - beats same day flights.

Too much hassle.

Land at Don Muang. Bus straight to Suvarnabhumi. Take off.

I see no reason in inserting taxi/checkin/check out/taxi in between of that. Did that before. Too much hassle. Especially in BKK traffic.

Ok, then 1 hour out of DM, max 2 hour traffic, 2 hours Suvarnabhumi, with risks

- flight into DM seriously late

- huge traffic jam due to accident

Landing by schedule at 8 AM.

Departing by schedule at 11 AM.

You won't be off DMK and in the bus in zero time.

Bus wait max 12 min or so.

Assume bad:

8:30 bus departing.

Terrible traffic in the morning might end with 1:30h traveling.

Arrive BKK at 10 AM.

Queues at BKK unpredictable/erratic.

I wouldn't risk it.

What airline to Europe?

Business class or economy?

I didn't book anything yet. I'm just asking.

If you tell me 3 hours, I will book flights with 3 hours gap. If you tell me 24 hours I will book flights with 24 hours gap... . I just need that info... .

3 hours with private prearranged transport and business class ticket out, else I wouldn't.

5 hours: for that to fail it needed a "catastrophe" (where cancelled domestic flight/technical problem would be one).

Hypothetical break-down:

8h00 - Plane lands DMK

8h15 - Luggage collected

8h30 - In shuttle-bus

8h45 - Bus leaves

10h00 - Bus arrives Suvarnabhumi

Boarding time for international flights is often 1 hour before.

But you still need to check-in your luggage, and go through immigration.

> Can be done in 3 hours, but I would say 4 hours to do it relatively stress-free (and 5 hours to do it really relaxed).

It looks like I have three options.

- 2h30m

- 5h45m

- 12h45m

From your responses I think middle one is the best.

  • 4 weeks later...

I did it once with 6 hours between flights.

Every time since, I booked a hotel near BKK and flew down the night before. THB 1000 for the hotel, with pool and bar and transfers, meaning my flight to Europe wasn't extended with 8hrs of travel in Thailand (6hrs plus 1hr flight plus prior check-in.

6 hours -  1 hour to leave airport, 2 hours for bus, 3 hours before flight leaves for checkin and security etc
