Bangkok, – Popular for its warm hospitality and delicious dishes, the casual Italian eatery iO Italian Osteria sets to expand into a regional brand.

Established in September 2014, iO brand started as a test bed concept designed with overseas expansion in mind. Its first location in the heartlands of Singapore became an instant success with Singaporeans, its team praised for their passion of creation, and its food received fantastic reviews from many critically-acclaimed media. Six years later, iO Italian Osteria grew to three locations across Singapore and Thailand.

iO restaurants are renowned for their fresh-bakes and never repeating daily specials. Based on the community concept of an Italian osteria, the brand reflects on the tradition and unique historic essence consistently throughout the interiors and antique decorations of each restaurant. For each location, the tables and glasses are customized. Wines are poured from wooden barrels. An extensive shelf of imported Italian wines is readily on display, with on-ground Sommeliers to pair your Michelin-quality dishes with the right entry level to super Tuscany wines. Although every iO Italian Osteria restaurant is located in a commercial shopping mall, the food is still as authentic as it gets.

The best concept is iO’s daily specials menu, made of traditional recipes from all 20 regions of Italian, and rotated daily. No recipes are repeated, no dishes are the same.

Anna Borrasi, Partner and Group Executive Chef, and Gianluca Impemba, Partner and Entrepreneur, are the seasoned restaurateurs propelling the brand forward. With both determined to spread the arts of living and eating Italian, they prepare an ‘iO’ expansion throughout Southeast Asia.

“The iO concept is very versatile and can be easily applied to different locations. When we decided to take iO overseas, we did a market analysis to understand and analyze local customers behaviors to make sure they are familiar with western and Italian cuisine. We identified main players and always benchmark ourselves to be better in quality, variety, and price point,” comments Anna Borrasi. “Thailand was the country closet to Singapore, allowing me to fully control the operations, and I love this country. The F&B industry in Thailand is continuously booming and we have great authentic Italian to offer.”

Anna continues, “Our brand ambition is to create a community in Asia and Europe. The goal is to spread the concept of Italian conviviality outside the common concept of classic Italian restaurant. As matter of fact, we are looking into a second iO branch in Singapore. Through strong, strategic partnerships, our goal is to open at least 10 new branches in the next 5 years within CLMV countries.”

“Being community-oriented and environmentally-friendly is within iO’s brand DNA. Over the years, we are actively participating in social activities. Some of our past initiatives were the hiring of ex-convicts or person with handicap, with the aim of helping them to reintegrate in the society. We were involved in the battle against cancer in Peninsula Bangkok’s Eat Drink Pink 2019. All proceeds went to support  the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer provided much-needed care to underprivileged and terminally ill women suffering from stage-4 breast cancer patients from across the country,” comments Gianluca Impemba.

Gianluca continues, “Our environment-friendly policies have been implemented over the reduction of food wastage in our kitchens. All of our restaurants are using the least amount of plastic as they could, and converted our utensils to recycled or green-oriented products.”

iO Italian Osteria’ is managed under the restaurant group called Sicilia Mia and has over 170 employees between Singapore and Thailand.
