Immigration’s BMW smart car comes to Pattaya - no escape for illegal aliens

Naew Na reported that the "cool" BMW smart car was sent into action in Pattaya on Wednesday under the orders of Chonburi immigration chief Pol Col Naren Khreuangsanuk.

It wasn't long before the BMW - kitted out with state-of-the-art onboard diagnostics - was used to verify the status of a foreigner walking about outside his house in South Pattaya Soi 7.

Immigration soon realised that Imadh. M., 54, from Sudan was in Thailand illegally.

He was taken off to Pattaya police station for processing.

Pol Col Naren revealed this was all part of IB chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang's plan to rid Thailand of illegal aliens and foreigners up to no good.

The public should continue to call 1178 to report infractions of the immigration laws, said Naew Na, who referred to the BMW smart car as "jeng" or cool in their headline.

The Chonburi chief's surname translates as "machine of fun".

Busted for walking about outside his house.

Hardly Pablo Escobar is he.

Wow, they've got ONE guy, big news! They're probably more interested in racing with the BMW than looking for overstayers.

I’m sure a Toyota Camry could yield the same results. Why BMW?

Why a Camry why not a Yaris. The only smart thing is the computer.

Because BMWs are known as the preferred vehicle of <deleted>s..... although in the UK Audi is catching up! You can park them anywhere you know.

Interesting to know. Facial recognition? No TM30? Probably a random stop of someone who fits a certain profile.

Slim pickings these days by the look of it????

It has taken a long time for the BMW's to come to Pattaya could they not find the way.............LOL

Next weeks headline, 'Pattaya police road saftey message gets through with an increased number of foreigners wearing motorbike helmets'

Yes, they have magic overstay sniffer sensors on top.

When they pass an illegal alien the alarm beeps.

Didn't you know :cheesy:

It needs a lot of B.S stories to justify this BMW luxury.

Why a Yaris even - squadrons of Sa-mart Tuk-Tuks would give blanked coverage.

With all 'em Pattayan retirees who are unable or unwilling to comply with the OA visa mandatory insurance requirement being top of the target list, of course.

unbelievable. would like to the parameters used to conclude.facial recognition, iris  profile, or his gait.

whatever it is it is progressive.

BMW is to overtake the offender in case he tries a daring escape by running away.

I think this like a man hunt is not so funny. They did something like this in the 3. Reich under Hitler. For foreigners feel like same. Even thought, the detention jail does not comply with international human rights. The overstay people are treated same as murders and child rapers. They even don't have more space than a chicken on farm.

Thailand is so disgusting and inhumane culture now.

Went to Rayong immigration yesterday and one of these was in the car park, looks a bit like the back to the future car.

spiekerjozef i have just posted as to what parameters were analysed to conclude that the person walking outside his house was an over stayer.  an overstayer  should do his walks in the backyard from now on.

Overstayers... the filth of Thailand. Worse than kiddy fiddlers, drug dealers, terrorists and robbers. Well done guys

I'm sure they could install this kit in ruggedised form on a standard cop CBR. They could probably have twenty of them patrolling the streets for the price of one BMW.

Face value, that is the currency of Thai society.

from the linked article, it seems they were dropping by random foreigner addresses they had on file, the smarty car was able to access the passport database showing the evildoer as being in thailand illegally.

wouldn't it make more sense to just use all those databases and documents collected by immigration, make a list of overstayers, and go pick them up directly?  no need to use the "suan spy app" on location like you're a freakin' secret agent.

and really, silly thailand, don't they know super spies drive aston martins?

What a clever car. I'm reminded of the TV series "Brum" made in the UK 20+ years ago. Brum solved everything. Perhaps Thailand could make a similar series called "Beamer".

Maybe BMW have invented a fingerprint scanner from 30meters away

Their first car was here last year, and it looks that the second one has been delivered recently.
