Anutin explains why some cruise ships welcome

The government allowed two cruise ships, the Seabourn Ovation and Quantum of the Seas, to dock at Phuket because the majority of the 2,000 passengers aboard each were European, Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said this week.

 

The Westerdam has been denied permission to berth at Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi because most of its passengers are from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, and China is dealing with an outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19, he said. 

 

The Ovation and Quantum have been turned away nowhere else, whereas the Westerdam is struggling to find a place anywhere to land, he added.

As well, Anutin said, the Ovation and Quantum’s stays in Phuket were for only 10 hours.

 

Trisulee Trisaranakul, a deputy government spokeswoman, said the Ovation’s medics reported that no passenger had shown symptoms of the virus anywhere along its voyage.

 

Thailand has no measure for restriction passenger ships’ travels, she said, but the ministry was obliged to follow safety procedures and earn the public’s confidence.

This is a statement of, er, uh, some degree of, let's say, confusion. Right now, Thailand is a very important staging area for moderate to well-to-do Chinese from the PRC. Other countries have closed them from entry, unless they can prove a 14 day period of stay outside of China. Where can they stay for 14 days while getting ready for the move??? Expect a steady but consistent stream of Chinese "tourists" in 14 day transit as long as this virus continues.

Great plan Anutin. Let the Chinese mainlanders enter via the airports instead. That'll guarantee no problems, COVID-19 hates the enclosed spaces of planes and airports.

 

majority being Chinese from Hongkong on the Westerdam? In Hongkong, 600 Chinese boarded the ship. The majority are the 1400 Dutch passengers and the even bigger majority are the 19 Thai citizens! ????????

 

and from Sihanoukville the 1400 Dutch passengers first travel to Pnom Penh, and from there they fly home via Bangkok. What was all the ruckus for? Instead of taking them to Suvarnabhumi by bus from Laem Chabang, they are now arriving at Suvarnabhumi by plane, and they still arrive on Thailand's soil. Same Same but stupid?

Most of the passengers on the Westerdam were from Canada, Germany and Holland.

Where did all these Chinese that were aboard come from ? were they stowaways

OMG

This thing could possibly go really Ballistic in the number of cases if the Indian Authorities do not get to grips with this in some kind of rapid fashion.

I hate to imagine the outcome if the Virus gets a hold in this Country with its 1.3 Billion Inhabitants, who mostly live in poor living conditions.

Passenger list has 1/29 from China/Hong Kong, most of the rest were from western countries.

It's already there. They have confirmed cases and thousand of peoples under observation waiting for tests results.

Does it matter whether they arrive by cruise ship or airplane?

 

Most of the cruise ship passengers will transit through Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi airports to get connections home.

"Two passengers, who arrived at Kolkata international airport from Bangkok, have been placed in isolation for suspected novel coronavirus, officials said on Thursday."

 

Since when has a positive thermal scan been confirmation of Corvid-19?  Same garbage reporting as the Daily Mail yesterday and the two prisoners in the UK who eventually tested negative.

When one is appointed from the bottom of the barrel, and has no experience whatsoever in the health field, what is to be expected, beyond gross incompetence? 

 

Thailand is the opposite of a meritocracy. And as long as they continue to appoint based on cronyism, this is what they will get. Very low end appointments. Anutin has lost the tiny shreds of credibility he may have once had. May as well replace him at this point. 

Remember I called dibs on him first for the dunce contest.
