The committee tasked to buy electricity from the planned community power plant projects will hold its first meeting on February 17 to consider criteria and conditions of the purchase, said Kulit Sombatsiri, Energy Ministry's permanent secretary this week.

Four prototype community plants will be set up this year, he said, adding that two will be driven by biogas, located in Prachuabkirikan and Chiang Mai provinces. Both will have a capacity of one megawatt and will be managed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.

The other two will be operated by the Provincial Authority of Thailand (PEA) in Yala and Narathiwas.

All four will start commercial operation this year.
