They are nowhere near as outwardly happy or as boisterous as Thais, they are far more introvert. So on the outside there is a lack of smiles. However, talk to them or get to know them and it's a different story. Work with them and you get to know them and they are the same as anyone. The rest I disagree. The police are not an issue and are friendly and helpful when you need them and generally you don't even notice them. Extreme poverty?
