March 4, 20206 yr MP finds masks that ‘pose cancer risk’ By THE NATION Phalang Pracharat Party MP Sira Jenjaka plans to take a facemask retailer to court because the masks’ price was too high and the quality too low, he said on Wednesday (March 4). Sira said he bought “two lots” of the protective masks on Tuesday to give away to people in need and paid higher than market price – Bt14 per mask in the first lot, Bt17 in the second. Suspicious about the quality, he asked Weerachai Phutdhawong, a chemistry lecturer at Kasetsart University, to check them. “He told me they were a risk to the user’s health and could cause cancer,” Sira said. He admitted he had not checked out the retailer thoroughly. His assistant found the masks being sold online. But he believes he can bring the dealer to justice. March 4, 20206 yr I imagine the choice for some between dying soon or in 30 years from cancer is not a hard choice

Well, at least the guy here is just a Thai "lecturer". If we had an actual professor saying such things, then I'd really be worried!!!
March 4, 20206 yr Popular Post Maybe he's realised that surgical masks don't filter the pm2.5 & then you get lung cancer?
March 4, 20206 yr Popular Post 31 minutes ago, snoop1130 said: MP finds masks that ‘pose cancer risk’ Can't help but think/wonder, if this isn't another typical government PR / propaganda stunt (coming from a PP MP). Thais are lining up at 4 am in the morning and waiting 3 hours in queue to buy paper drugstore masks because the government can't manage to supply even a modest stock of them to the public. So, if we can't manage to actually provide enough masks to the public in this time of crisis, let's do the next best thing -- try to convince the public that wearing the masks can be worse for their health than NOT wearing them.... Good try...
March 4, 20206 yr Popular Post Wear a mask, don't wear a mask, wear a mask if you are sick, don't wear a mask they cause cancer. Which is it?!

A month ago they were saying we should be thrown out of the country if we weren't willing to wear a mask. Now it's safer to not wear one. It's ridiculous. They don't even back track, they just pretend they never said it.
March 4, 20206 yr He thinks 14 and 17 baht for a mask? The best we can find in Chiang Mai is 350 for four!
March 4, 20206 yr What are you lot whining about? The MP did a lovely thing by giving out these free masks to the general public. So what if they don't work or can you give you cancer? That's not how publicity or making merit here works. It's not about helping other people; it's about helping yourself.

March 4, 20206 yr The majority of the masks that people are wearing are useless for any particles smaller than sawdust ! Might work on a building site but as for keeping out viruses or bacteria, no way. All they do is collect the germs on the mask ready to be breathed in. I will never waste my time wearing one of these useless things.

March 5, 20206 yr Passed through central Bangkok yesterday (4 March) and there were lots of roadside stalls selling hospital type face masks at very inflated prices (20 THB per mask).... I just wonder if these were from the cottage industry somewhere in Thailand that were recently reported to be recycling used masks - washed, tumble dried and ironed? PS... almost got lynched by very irate seller for taking the photo.
March 5, 20206 yr The best mask to prevent catching Covid-19. The only reason to wear a mask to prevent this is to stop you from touching your eyes, nose or mouth. The fencing mask is perfect for this. Probably doesn't cause cancer either.
