Manager published a report in which they said that the truth about visitors from countries severely affected by the Covid-19 outbreak can now be revealed.

There were just over half a million visitors from nine countries deemed now to be especially risky.

None of the people who arrived went into quarantine, either compulsory or voluntary.

In addition the scale of illegal workers in South Korea - the so called Little Ghosts - is very much higher than previously reported.

Official figures from South Korean immigration to the Thai government show there are more than 150,000 illegal Thai workers there.

Many of these are pouring back into Thailand taking advantage of an amnesty until June. Many could potentially be infected with the virus.

The extraordinary statistics from Thai immigration show that from February 1 to 29th 170,000 entered from China. In the same time 196,000 left.

Other entries were as follows:

Japan 140,000
South Korea 58,000
Taiwan 38,000
Hong Kong 37,000
Singapore 34,000
Italy 23,000,
Iran 2,000 and
953 from Macao.

In total this came to more than 507,000 people from these countries none of whom went into any kind of quarantine, said Manager.

The issue of Phee Noi or the little ghosts who are illegal Thai workers is now very big in Thailand.

Manager said not much was known about them before - but now the phrase "Phee Noi" is on everyone's lips.

Thaivisa notes that in previous years the number of illegal workers in fields such as prostitution and agriculture was thought to be around 20,000.

The reality is that it is nearly eight times higher.

Official figures from South Korean immigration to the Thai government say there are 157,439.

The media said that after an amnesty was announced until the end of June Thais working illegally in South Korea are steadily returning back to Thailand amid fears they will be infected.

Channel News Asia reported Friday that there were more than 6,000 cases of the virus in South Korea and 42 people had died so far.

"COVID-19: Half a million people visited Thailand from severely affected countries"   This makes the official number of infections in LOS even more unbelievable

  • Wow, amazing.   I guess this is why immigration are so paranoid - they think we're all doing the same as they (Thais) do all around the world.

Just look at Iran and Tehran today, if it’s even 10% as bad, then people here will just  wet themselves, panic and then you might get a silver lining of social distancing, waiting for the Wuhan virus to peak, all hoping as nobody can say how this will play out for the world

A post containing a disallowed trolling reference to the PM has been removed.

Many if not all governments are trying to play it down. Singapore seems to be one of the only shining stars where they opted for transparency from the get-go. It'll likely save them a lot of grief down the line.

This is very scary news.... ????

Wuhan peaked 10 days ago. 52000 recovered from 78000 infected (Hubei was closed on 26th January).

Wuhan was closed off on January 24th and Hubei province on 26th.

44 and 42 days ago. So what is your point?

I don't know if we can declare wuhan has "peaked".

Wuhan still has the majority of their population vulnerable to the virus and they're all just sheltering in isolation. Eventually they have to be let out of their homes and it just takes one exposure for this thing to spread like wildfire.

The virus hasn't run it's course across the entire population so without a vaccine or natural immunity I'm unsure if it has actually "peaked".

The second wave will be come once they're allowed to roam freely in Wuhan again.

Wow.

If this article is true things have really not even begun to get bad here yet.  All those S. Korea folks coming.  Not good.

Just read about an hospital in Italy where 70% of that staff got the virus also. Not sure if some face-masks and hand soap are going to improve the situation.

And that's why it's so difficult for Thais to get visas to Western countries folks, and rightly so.

Yes what about the figures pre 1st Feb. Too damming to publish ?
Tick Tock Tick Tock

A quick back-of-the-envelope calculation shows that up to approximately 50 people from this group of 507,000 will have entered Thailand with the virus

That 'Pandemic' movie from 2007; perfectly illustrates the extrapolation concept of it, from such a small number at the beginning of each outbreak

even the movie itself has just passed 507k Hits on youtube

Agree. Strange that a country like Australia with no land borders with other countries and stopped flights from China and Sth K etc has far more cases that Thailand. One state NSW with a population of under 8mill has 38 cases presently.

Guess Tai figures of confirmed cases proves they are doing an extraordinary job or more likely unbelievable job.

Wonder who would be responsible for paying for 'compulsory' quarantine !

I imagine forced quarantines from the airport would the TAT's worst nightmare

It is all to do with temperature, putting it simply, Thailand is too hot ( over 27 Cel ) for the virus to thrive

Thailand is in a quandary !!

We don’t want foreigners coming bringing the virus BUT we do want them to come bringing money and helping the economy... hmmm... what to do ??

Maybe if we we juggle the figures a little nobody will notice ????

It didn't work though, did it? The entire  world is heading into a great pandemic for the record books. Then the CCP has the gall to ask even it's own citizens not return home for fear of bringing the disease to China.

14 day quarantine for all incoming travelers from European countries and the US would be my advise.

44 days to go and the virus is over :cheesy:

The numbers coming out of LOS were Always Suspect.

No way are the COVID 19 cases more in Italy and Iran

than here.

Not long anymore before China will close their borders for high risk countries. Scared of bringing the virus back into their country. :w00t:
