Tourist attractions wear deserted look

Fewer tourists were seen on Saturday (March 7) at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram and the adjacent Grand Palace in Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok.

Only small groups of tourists are visiting one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bangkok amid fear of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) that has hit the country’s tourism industry since early this year. The situation worsened when the Ministry of Public Health declared the Covid-19 disease a dangerous communicable disease last week and named South Korea, China, Italy, and Iran as countries at high risk of infection.

Most of the foreign tourists visiting the temple were European while only a few Chinese were seen. Large groups of tourists, who usually come with tour guide companies that used to fill up the place, are missing, leaving only individual tourists and those who come in small groups.

"fewer tourists were seen" is a bit of an (ridiculous) understatement. It's deserted.... but why keep posting this "news" which is not news at all. We all know it already. The whole world's tourism is badly affected... many worse than Thailand. They really are struggling to fill up their columns. We get it already - there are no tourists. It's no surprise and it won't get better anytime soon.

No travel insurance will cover you now for COVID19 so the vast majority of people booking after Jan 2020 will not want to travel and risk the 10s to 100s of thousands of dollars if they end up in hospital, especially in intensive care.  Could be a wealth destroyer.

Maybe it's time to ban for good all the cheating against foreigners and the dual pricing....?

it's maybe time to make Thailand to understand that foreigners need more respect and not to be looked plainly for their money ?

Maybe time to slash prices for the Thai Bhat, the foreign imported goods in malls and keep it that way?

Maybe time to enforce honest taxi drivers ?

Maybe the time to understand that the money bought in Thailand by the expats, retirees, tourists is necessary and those people deserve more respect and caring ?

Maybe time for the immigration Police to stop harassing the decent retirees with all their forms and other red tape ?

They're all 'at the temples'.

Well, but not at Wat Phra Keaw...

They are at the shopping malls enjoying the air-conditioning.

I still see them there. The weather now is 40 C, too hot to be out in the sun.
