Psychiatrist in Thailand

Greetings. 

I am looking for Psychiatrists in Thailand to help with a mental disorder. 

Where can I find a good Psychiatrist and one that can prescribe Vyvanse for my issue?

He asked where in Thailand ie Bangkok or Chiang Mai. Not where is Thailand

The issue is this drug is approved by the FDA.  My wife has the issue and I am not going to air her issues on this forum.  We are just looking for Psychiatrists in Thailand to help us.  

Thank you for helping.  We know what drug is needed and we don't care about drug charges,  we are trying to find a solution to a problem, and I reached out asking for some help.

if one has insurance any private hospital can set up an appointment with a psychiatrist

if not insured public hospitals have psychiatrists but the public hospitals are difficult to navigate for most; schedules, waiting time, etc.
there are also psychiatric hospitals, in bangkok and chiangmai for example, where one could apply.
i do not now how liberally amphetamines would be prescribed to walk-in patients.

In which city in Thailand? It would be pointless giving you a name of somebody in Phuket when you are staying 1,200 kms away in Chiang Mai!

There are some good ones there. Ramathipodhi hospital has very good ones and cheap. They also work at Samitivej, which is a rip-off.

Thank you. But where are these Psychiatrist clinics or hospitals.  I'm sorry when I look for them on my wonderful browser,  for some reason I get hospitals out of Dallas TX or Chicago Illinois.  And nothing about thailand.  It is very frustrating to do a Google Search and get misinformed about tires in the USA or UK and nothing in my local area.  It's almost like there is a block on the internet on my browser.

I can't help with Korat but if you are willing to travel to Chiang Mai there's two options:

Not a recommendation, because we haven't been there yet, but I got a very prompt email reply from this hospital - in very good English.

When I phoned the next day the receptionist was very helpful and spoke good English.

Might be worth sending an email with some brief details and asking if they can help.

Each covers a specific catchment area. Generally speaking the one closest will be the one that covers a particular location but to be sure, ask the local provincial hospital staff as they will know.

Treatment is free (or nominal 30 baht cost) provided a referral is obtained from the hopsital at which the patient is registered under the "30 baht" (AKA "Gold Card") scheme.

 

As with any government hospitals -- and especially specialized ones -- long waits and crowded conditions are the norm. Some of these hospitals have after hour clinics, a quasi-private arrangement whereby the senior doctors can be seen by appointment. This will not be covered under the "30 baht" scheme but costs are pretty reasonable and it can be worth it to have more time spent by the doctor and to go straight to a senior doc as care will others be largely by residents in training under their supervision. It is possible that medications will still be covered under the free system though, I am not clear on that point.

 

In addition, all teaching hospitals and regional hospitals will have at least one psychiatrist on staff.

yes, Manorom is often recommended.
I personally liked Dr Anekwit in Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok but this was for a foreign patient.

If you are using a VPN and it is set to the US, then you will not find anything here.  You will need to disable it for a quick search and then reactivate it after you find something that you wish to pursue.

The above is the first and i think still only private psych hospital in Thailand. It has a large outpatient department with wide range if specialists and is a good choice if you can get to Bangkok.

 

There are also some good psychiatrists at several of the private general hospitals in Bangkok but I would need to know the type of problem to suggest a specific one as they have sub specialties.

 

Whetever you go, she will not be able to get Vyvanse as it is not approved for use in Thailand.

I don't think you should consider bringing it from another country since it contains amphetamines and is a psychotropic drug you can only bring one months supply with a prescription

Worse than that. Dexamphetamine is a banned substance all together (Classified in Thailand as a Class  I narcotic) and Vyvanse is chemically related.  Probably illegal to bring in even with prescription.

 

in any case, OP should nto be taking it on himself to determine what medication(s) his wife needs. This needs to be decided by a qualified psychiatrist.

Thank you all.  We went to the government hospital here in korat. It was just over two hours for everything.  My wife was able to get a medication she needed. Thank you all for the assistance.  It is much appreciated.

Galaya Rajanakarindra Institute (Buddhamonthon) - just an update,  I did research on a lot of these hospitals,  and this one mentioned above did not have a website (maybe in thai,  but did not show up on the internet search).  Most of what is on the government hospitals is that they are mostly concerned with drug addiction, schizophrenia, or depression only.  Not much of anything else about other disorders that are not linked to these big three.

All of the government psych hospitals handle the full range of mental illness.

 

Naturally their websites focus on the most common ones.
