Melania Trump to star in U.S. coronavirus awareness ads

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - First lady Melania Trump will urge Americans to wash their hands and keep their distance from one another to fight coronavirus in a new TV ad campaign produced with major U.S. broadcast networks, the White House said on Wednesday.

 

ABC, CBS, NBC and other networks will air the public service announcements, which will also include other Trump administration officials and "communicate the most important ways Americans can protect themselves and those most at risk," the White House said in a statement.

 

Nickleodon will create a separate campaign for children.

 

The air time will be donated by media networks, the White House said.

 

Trump, a former fashion model, has avoided the public arena more than many first ladies. Her signature initiative has been a campaign called Be Best, which focuses on the safety and well-being of children.

 

All the ads will direct audiences to coronavirus.gov, a website containing the latest information about the outbreak.

 

The announcement comes as the U.S. death toll from COVID-19 rose to at least 146, with the number of infections closing in on 8,000 as millions of Americans stayed home instead going to work or school and President Donald Trump said hospital ships would be deployed to make up for an anticipated shortage of hospital beds.

It amazes me how much hate this wonderful lady gets simply because she is married to someone. The hatred of her is even more irrational that that directed at her husband. So sad, pathetic and pitiable. I truly feel sorry for some people.... to be consumed with that much hate is unhealthy.

On the other hand she does have experience at social distancing...from Donald Trump.

Melania is perfect for this. She did her prelude on how to perform social distancing quite some time ago. ????

 

 

Think Melania needs a job and wants to do more in public.

Likely her husband has been stifling/refusing to let her, which is why she slaps his hands away etc... 

POTUS is liked by so many in America, but for all the wrong reasons IMO

Aaaahhhhh who said I hated her??not I but you certainly said I did I personally don’t feel one way or the other about her but I certainly don’t feel she has one iota of understanding the struggle of common Americans therefore a poor choice but you can say I hate if it makes you feel better

Well, Nyezhov has no choice. When the facts are against you, go to motive.

It sounds OK to me for her to do that. Perhaps she's prepping for an acting career after she divorces 45 when he loses in November. 

 

I don't hate her but her anti-bullying Be Best campaign is deeply vacuous considering she's married to the biggest bully in American history.

 

I'm looking forward to the tell all book by Barron but knowing 45 he probably made him sign an NDA.

Well, it's become traditional for first spouses to have their own pet causes and the incumbency always carries built in advantages. His too. So I don't think this is anything special he is getting that's really different than what would be available to any president.

Joe Biden's wife will have the opportunity to run a similar campaign. As soon as he can remember which one is his wife.

Understand that, Jing... But in this case, the timing happens to fall right into the midst of a presidential election campaign. And that's where having the networks give tons of free airtime to the president's spouse, when she really has absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand, is a troubling decision from my perspective.

 

I'd say exactly the same thing regardless of which party or president was involved in this kind of caper. Let a non political person do the promos, or better yet, have a public health-oriented person do the promos... At least that would have a shred of credibility that Melania entirely lacks. AFAIK, she's never spent much time/effort advocating for any public health issue, all the while her husband has been consistently trying to cut public health funding.
