This is going to get much worse and go on for a long time. When It finally ends,

most people will not be able to afford to travel on holiday to Thailand.

If they can afford it they probably wont be able to obtain the correct "paperwork" due to previous indiscretions that have been noted on social media algorithms?

Maybe ????

Just deiven home from Foodland & stopped at the lights.

First time ever in Thailand (has happened a few times in India & Indonesis)

2 guys tried to open my rear car doors.

Take care everyone, theft & looting will continue the longer this carries on.

People will get desperate

Yes. Desperate people will resort to crime particularly if they are not particularly clever or well-educated.

It will eventually be concentrated in the better off areas.

Dealing with crime will cost the government much more than helping the people with financial assistance in order to cope with basic needs.

“We estimate that around 25-30 per cent of tourism employees or 1-1.2 million people will be laid off, while up to 3 million will have their salaries cut or be offered unpaid leave until the situation improves,”

I estimate 90% of tourism employees will be laid off .... about 4M people.

What's the difference between 'unpaid leave' and being 'laid off'?

Just wondering?

I have to agree with you 101% there, hopefully when this is all over???? one of the outcomes being we will have a better choice? ????

This virus is "The War of the Worlds" in the global version.

It's about money, power, strategic flows, liquidation of cash

More than a million people in the tourism industry could lose their jobs with estimated loss of Bt1 trillion if the Covid-19 pandemic continues, Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) president Chairat Trirattanajarasporn said

This is going to be around for another 6 months, effectively wiping out this year...

the old it'll all be over by end of march/April was just a dream, it's just beginning.

It's not a question "if" the crisis continues! It WILL - for at least a few months. Thailands tourism is done - for the next couple of years. Due to the dictatorship, exchange rate and the virus! Back to the roots ... ???? 555

so each person working is worth 1.000.000 (x 1.000.000 =  1 trillion) ????

Just a few trilion to help the tourist indusrty , if it needs a few trilion just to help keep it going, i geuss a lot comes in to have people making actual money out of it as well . So i geuss it's not as small of a part of the economy as they all say it is .

Here we see the big difference between developing countries like Thaiand and developed countries.

Many Western countries are breaking their budgets to compensate people who are laid off work, whether permanent or temporary, as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. Here most of those who will be sent home will receive not a single baht from the Government, whose generosity so far has extended to give a 3% discount on electricity and water bills. It's surely time to dig into the reserves and help Thai citizens.

And the situation has now been exacerbated with the closure of shopping malls and markets in Bangkok. How are market traders going to make any sort of living and will stores continue to pay their stay-at-home staff? Come on Prayut, you need to help them....and that doesn't mean giving them a 1,000 baht shopping voucher!

Sorry the subs are arriving soon Must pay for them more im portant.

maybe goverment and immigration now understand how important western foreign have at thailand economy, if not change immigration law foreigns stay out and many ower million thai not have work and drop economy lot down, what is good if goverment then understand immgiration law have too old, monkey land has make this, but today we liver nortmal human and have different all law than monkey land has before, monkeys need change immgration law fast if want foreign make money and work in thailand, if not, thai economy drop back to cavemen pre-history monkeyland. and PM not can dream build thailand europe guality anythink, big joke. first need change normal human immigration law and end monkey law, then caqn dream someday 1000 year later thailand have same guality and human than europe smart peoples have. now not have possiple PM dream anythinkl european guality thailand hahahaha

Time to repatriate some of the loot that's been shipped off shore by .......... oh you know who.

Its not going to end anytime soon. A lot of businesses will go under and never reopen. Millions of jobs gone but it was happening before the virus hit. The virus just speed up the process.

I thought I read earlier, they are letting the Chinese back in by the end of the month ?

It's like people in Thailand are living in a bubble and they alone are suffering. Most countries around the world have shut their tourism industry down. Deal with it and stop the incessant whining.

It's a news report, I don't see any "excessive whining"

Have you read the reports from Italy and Spain regarding the decimated tourist

industry, central London effectively shut down, Fort William in the Highlands of

Scotland has had 2 of its main events of the year cancelled leading to four hotels

closing down. This was reported in the press, would you consider that whining?

Well, if they have got a health certificate and health insurance, why not ?

Arguably safer than letting Italians in................

Well, good luck to these people, the PM needs to close all the borders.

I didn't base whining judgement on one report, but many similar reports over the last 6 weeks... and yes, I would call that whining too if I'd read a dozen similar reports over the last month.

Western countries have also elected governments and civil servants  that had to qualify for their jobs. This and the higher intelligence in the west makes the difference. Might sound arrogant, but you can’t deny the facts.

Big opening for virtual 5d holidays. Your dream location could be big hit.

zero people will buy houses this month.  that's going to affect millions right there.  night markets won't get people (Thais) traveling.  That will affect about 20 million.  all hotels, etc... millions.

then we have the world getting much poorer....this won't change overnight.  less tourists for longer.

again, the virus DOESN'T matter as much if the hospitals can handle the numbers.  yes, it matters, but if the hospitals can handle the numbers then the economy can really rebound.  When?  no idea.

that's why you lockdown.... so 70 million don't go to the hospitals at once.

This country has deep deep pocket but it doesn't leave those pockets generally for the poor who are the majority!  They care about themselves what is thrown out are crumbs at best and that is open their mouths like they understand and going to do something about it but the reality time after time it is a big 0!  These leaders are living in a different world than the rest of the Thais.

Those apartment towers with pretentious names will be a monument to the folly of wasting decades of tourist income.

I would not like to visit a country with mass unemployment, hungry dogs/monkeys and the russian roulette of catching the virus on the flight to/from there. My time there in February was pretty bad and I still have the chest infection from the PM 2.5's.

With the new regulations imposed Medical certificate and the Corona insurance tourism in Thailand is going to sink faster than the Titanic and it’s the Thai people who are going to suffer not the idiot who thought up these new measures. There are currently around 6,000 Thai students in the U.K. wanting to get home where are they going to get their Corona Free medical certificates from as the doctors are to busy trying to saves lives of those who are suffering this terrible virus .Thailand should do the same as the U.K. has done and send military aircraft to the U.K. to pick up their citizens there is no need for a stupid meaningless certificate place them in quarantine when they get back to Thailand.

Puzzling thing is what the other 70%  of tourist workers are doing apart from playing in the mobile

They will and the crime rate is going to spike, because these do-nothing folks need their Yaba fixes.

This happened before in Southern Thailand after the Tsunami. It will become a nationwide problem soon enough.

Desperate people will do desperate things to survive.

These are rather desperate times for these kind of people, who did not invest in their futures, nor know anything else to do.

The next phase of this pandemic is going to be culling. While it might sound harsh, it's the reality.
