After Saturday shopping frenzy, rush ebbs at Iconsiam

Iconsiam saw a steep fall in the number of visitors to its supermarket after people went on a shopping spree on Saturday to stock up on necessities.

The rush on Saturday was triggered by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ordering the closure of shopping malls in Bangkok until April 12.

However, supermarkets, drugstores and some restaurants for takeaway food will remain open during this temporary shutdown period.

Actually Google check of Tesco and another market near me showed slightly high Sunday customers in morning but after the 188 new case report was made it went down to markedly less than normal for rest of the day.  Suspect more are taking advice to limit exposure seriously as the cases increase.

Do not expect they have money to buy from supermarket.  This is a very critical issue for much of the population (and this is day one.  In Philippines (day 6) the poor are already saying they have no fear of COVID as they will starve before that happens.  People who live hand to mouth are in very bad conditions with no employment and must leave to family farms to survive.

Actually the vast majority of yesterday's travelers were not Thai but were foreign workers attempting to exit Thailand from recent reporting.  Some border checkpoints that were due to shut today have reportedly extended operations in an attempt to allow passage.
