Why? Because we are seeing  European, US, Canadian, UK specific results. Some regions are worse than others. Some regions have more young with complications. That magical older than 70 at risk age  was  pushed to 65 then 60 and now it is 45 in some regions.

There is a lot still developing. Some will do much better than others. And alas, others will do much worse.

I think that eventually those mortality rates do even out and come to a more reliable average, I believe that what we are hearing now, that rate will not be anywhere near the 20% that seemed to be suggested. 

 

The age as such is of course not the only deciding factor, some people that are in their early 40s are also a risk, think off HIV patients, and people with lung problems.

The Mrs says that according to Thai news, those crowds at Mo Chit bus station were mostly Burmese, Laos and Khmers heading for the border towns to return home

At this point the whole country should be locked down for 2 weeks with the strictest measures possible. The predilection of Thais to share food, space, and other items in large clusters cannot be requested away. Why step by step when we all know this needs to go to Defcon 5. Nearly all outdoor Thai street food and eating practices are unsanitary. In the world before the virus these could be remedied with a few capsules of Charcoal to fix an upset stomach but now there is a risk of wiping out a huge slice of the population. No amount of economic damage from a 2 week lockdown is going to be as bad as that. No one including me wants to be forced inside but I think it has come to that. Let one person out per household per day to get nearby food and allow critical employees to continue to work including food delivery. Have this run by the military and force it into practice. We are brought to the lowest common denominator of death and illness by a large portion of the population that on average has no understanding of viral transmission besides avoiding dirty Farangs who created the virus by not taking showers. As well as those lovely fried banana and som tam vendors washing bowls in buckets of dirty water then eating out of them. I love Thailand and Thai people but it's time to be honest about what it will take to solve this crisis.

 

By the way my favorite thing are people who like to wear their useless surgical masks on their chin.

Does appear to be following a recurring pattern, or could it be a script?

Here in the village there are 2 big parties going on near us right now. Loads of tables at both and the usual communal plates of food in the middle of each.

We declined to attend.

Now that you mention it. It'd likely need to be an entire month. There is up to a 2 week window period and then once you've gotten the virus, assuming you don't need to be hospitalized, it takes a few weeks to recover. I'm of course no epidemiologist I'm just saying these half measures and polite requests that are meant either for show or to keep people calm are going to only prolong and deepen the pain. If the virus doesn't kill everyone the economic consequences will. Thailand cannot survive a multi month gradual 'curve flattening' exercise like countries with more extensive social welfare can.

The  government has announced they are closing the land borders so it's entirely logical that most of those at Mor Chit are neighbouring country migrant labourers trying to get home.

Well the sickness can sometimes last for more like a month. But yes a person that has HAD it and recovers will then have antibodies, no longer be infectious, and will likely have significant immunity at least for the near term future.

Just spoke to a friend up in Udon. He indicated that as people have arrived back in the village he lives in that it's been one party after another.  Only concern folks have is where the money will come from as they move forward. All eating in large groups and planning welcome home parties for the ones yet to return. His view is that government wanted this to spread and decrease the population.  He said that no one is telling them anything. He feels like a mushroom in the dark.  His son lives here in Bangkok with his thai wife and works at the US embassy. His son told him they have been advised to stay off all public transport, drive there own cars, and stay away from crowds or any groups of people. His son believes that there will be a big explosion in numbers due to the transport of all people over this past weekend to the north. He is pretty worried as no one seems to care about this virus.

My daily walk usually takes me to Mahan coffee on the navy training site near Sattahip. I was surprised (should I have been?) to see a large wedding taking place today in the Officer's Club. I counted 71 cars and 2 minibuses; that is a lot of people in one place at one time in the current climate.


In the U.K. the Church of England has limited weddings to 5 people - bride and groom, two witnesses and the vicar.

 

Is Thailand testing covid-19 treatment with hyrdochloroquine/zithromax or remdesivir? Obviously trying to change behavior is going to be a longer road than anyone wants or can travel.
