Not much of a sample, but the existence of this kind of treatment is pretty well-known around the country.   I guess that explains the beatings and sexual abuse.

Not exactly breaking news, it's been known for years

Only the poor and the stupid get drafted, even one of the Mrs brother got out of it with a 20k payment a few years back. We went to an army camp where another relative went in, some kind of open day, you could tell from the cars parked up no rich kids were involved. Fat boys and ladyboys are ruled out straight away as well.

If I get it right!  you must be one of those cowards that hide behind the computer talk is cheap you basically calling me and my son " poor and stupid "  I could easily rip you apart verbally here but it would only get deleted by the moderator.

First I can actually buy him out the money that it would take I easily spend on drinks on an average night out so money has and never be a problem with me. Like most Thai kids he has gone through his growing pains that cause me sleepless nights but one day he learned a hard lesson when I was visiting the States and couldn't bail him out he learn his so called friends weren't really his friends. Thereafter something click what parents in my situation hope he has always been a good kid but his problem he wasn't a leader his personality is being lead because he was a bit different and had no friends it was easy for him to be mislead and that is what happened.

Although I wasn't Thai it was easy for me to obtain a number of guns I and my brother are like collectors and have many just to have them although my son was taught how to defend himself and fight by me he was just too lay back plus he was blind as a bat. But as I noted he started to go to school to learn a trade he went from a 1.9 to graduating yesterday with a 3.60 in four years never missed a class even after getting his girlfriend pregnant two years ago rarely drinks or hang out with school mates comes home after school to take over caring for his daughter.

In the past I and the wife have discussed when it was time for him to go the last two years she has changed her tune that it would be actually good for him to go I agree mainly because of his wife she is very insecure about herself she clings to him and it would be good for the both of them.  He still needs to learn some discipline although I don't have much respect for their military it's like nothing more that a glorify boy scout? I think the number of youth detention I grew might be tougher than what they might have to offer?

So, for his situation it comes down to whether it is two years if he is unlucky of being away from his wife and daughter or volunteer and serve one year. He has indicated to his mother and me that he wants to sign up. I actually have no problem with it since I feel Thailand even with his degree aren't a lot of opportunities I don't feel Thailand is a true democracy but rather a socialist country if he wants to join I rather he enlist in the Navy or Air Force my brother oldest son did that he paid 40,000 to get him into the Navy two years later he is loving it he gets pay well and provided with a place to live and medical. Although he has had his problems he is spoiled so is his wife both of them don't really have to ever work but I'm not going to tell them that they have to earn it the money they will have when I die they couldn't earn in 10 life time.

There is also a catch he is blind as a bat so being drafted or enlisting might be a moot point but joining the military isn't because he is stupid or poor!

So there you go not everyone considering the military are stupid and poor!
