It was the meeting Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had on March 6 at the Government House with Thailand’s top medical experts that many believed helped set the government’s direction in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. – Photo from the Government House

Thais are now pinning their hopes on “Team Thailand”, the term Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul coined to describe the panel of medical gurus tasked with defending the nation against the deadly Covid-19 onslaught.

“This is the best team we have. If it can’t do the job, no one else can,” said Anutin, speaking at a March-21 press conference, flanked by former public health minister Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn and Dr Prasit Watanapa, dean of Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.

The elite team brings together the heads of medical schools, royal colleges and the Medical Council to weaponize academic expertise and the Public Health Ministry’s experience in the battle to prevent the highly infectious disease from breaking loose in the country.

and Anutin criticized the "dirty" farangs for NOT wearing masks, did he saw the photo?.... he should go back to the construction sites, not fit to be on any kind of government post

What I am getting from that is there is no plan "B".  Well that fits in with their modus operandi.

They don't need that since they're Team Thailand and of course have the most expensive amulets under their shirt.

I expect they will all be getting medals soon

I hope "Team Thailand" has a few substitutes on the bench. I fear some of them there might be stretchered off the field of play in the next few coming weeks.

I thought it already had broken loose with now over 100 cases per day?

Looks like we are getting a state of emergency at 2pm

Oh joy of joys!

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. The army are out of the picture and a professional politician is heading up a team of experts. What would the critics preferred option be?

Interesting...

The staff that remain in the office are talking about a curfew.

So did they come up with any plans / ideas in that meeting nearly three weeks ago?

The cabinet has approved a nationwide Emergency Decree starting on Thursday 26 March for one month

I think that would be the case if the military were still calling the shots but I think the present set-up offers a semblance of hope and is underpinned by good intent. There is a lot of experience among those medical experts.

Anutin, like him or not, is in charge of the virus response and looks like a leader to Thais, moreso than any general you wish to name. The generals all appear to have gone AWOL.
