Laos border status

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have updates on Laos border points for this week?

Are they being reduced for Lao citizens?

Particularly Chong Mek at by Ubon Ratchathani?

Girlfriend is Lao with Lao passport and started to hear storys of border closures and big crowds lined up.

She wants to go home this week.

Anyone travel there or know current status / openings or share a link?

Also she uses a 30 day Thai visa with her Laos passport.

Can this be extended in Thailand?

She usually just does a border run to Cambodia.. But that may be in jeopardy these days also.

Thanks for any help and best of luck to all

I am sure the Chong Mek crossing is open, for Laotians to enter Laos but she more than likely would not be allowed to re-enter Thailand.

There is no normal extension she can apply for of her 30 day visa exempt entry under a bilateral agreement. She might be able apply for a special 30 day extension that is available at immigration due to corvid 19.

She certainly would not be able to do a out and back at a border crossing to Cambodia since they are closed to everybody but Cambodians.

Lao citizens returning home are also being put under two weeks' quarantine in their local areas.

So is this mandatory for all Laotians?

Is only if you showing symptoms?

Location of quarantine is of your choosing or theirs?

Wondering if anyone has some more info on this?

Are medical certificates required or helpful like enter Thailand?

From what I understand it is everyone, whether showing symptoms or not.

I think where they're quarantined probably depends on their final destination. In my girlfriend's district, the schools have closed and are being used as quarantine centres for workers who've returned from Thailand. Initially it was only in the main district but now the school in her village is also being used. Medical staff go in morning and evening to check temperatures and symptoms. From what I can make out, the quarantine is effective because the other villagers don't want them out and mingling. but relatives and friends have to prepare food for them.
