For the past few years I have gotten my 1 yr extension based on Retirement (800k in the bank) instead of based on Marriage which requires more paperwork, home visit, etc . My question - can this still be done without proof of Medical Insurance as is required from those using a Non O-A visa  Also how far in advance can this be done? I will be using the IO in Khon Kaen.

Thanks in advance for any info on this and recent experiences.

It depends on whether your original Entry, that your previous extension(s) was based on, was on an O-A Visa or an O. Only O-A based retirement extensions require insurance since 31st Oct 2019.

Usually 30 days in advance maximum, although some offices it can be 45.

Thanks jacko. My original visa was a Non-O

Insurance is not required when you apply for your extension.
